Uosho — Restaurant in Tokyo

10:00pm Friday, June 22, 2018. While I walked down Asakusa street looking for a spot to eat my very late dinner, no eateries caught my attention. Then, as I was about to cross the street, I noticed that place. Under the dark night sky, the warm lit restaurant pulled me in.

Inside, I was greeted by a very sweet and kind obaasan (grandma/old lady). There are western chairs and tables on the left, whereas on the right, there are japanese low tables and cushions. I decided to eat the traditional way. Moreover, they offer english menus.

Although the restaurant's sepcialty is fugu (raw puffer fish is quite expensive), I ate the Wagyu Parfait (japanese beef parfait) which looked appetizing on the picture. Little did I know that it does not come with rice. As an Asian person, a warm bowl of rice is a must! Th the obasan gave me a set consisting of a bowl of rice and miso soup, and a bit of tsukemono (pickled vegetables). In sum, it was heavenly! The wagyu beef was soft and tender.

Enjoying my first experience, I returned to that restaurant, also at 10pm on Sunday, June 24, 2018. This time I ordered fugu don ( fried fugu fish on a bed of warm rice). And again no regret! Crispy tempura and vegetables well-seasoned! My only regret is not being able to enjoy obasan's food any time soon. However, I am hopeful that I will visit Japan again and eat her food again.

It is definitely a little hidden gem in Asakusa....

Delicious tempura and fish. It is a traditional Japanese restaurant, very cozy. The menu has photos and translation but it is very local. I felt privileged to eat and spend time there. Also the house green tea is good...
