(June 2022) Came a rather long way to eat here given the restaurant’s reputation, and ended up being a bit disappointed. No queue to get in and good value with the signature tsukemen and extra noodles coming in under 1,500 yen. Staff friendly, but at this stage I could’ve done without the COVID lecture (essentially being told to mask up at all times apart from when eating). No real care given to presentation; hardly a deal breaker, but it is definitely possible to serve dishes with a bit more care than shown in the photo. Broth itself was rich and a bit one note, but really came to life after being cut with some vinegar. Noodles themselves were fine, but the char siu really was subpar - just chewy hunks of meat with no real seasoning or finesse. Egg was maybe the highlight, with a beautifully runny yolk.
Overall, it’s an okay tsukemen joint, but I can't really reconcile the glowing reviews I’ve read with what I ate. Probably wasn’t worth the long trip, on balance, and it’s unlikely to go on my list of regulars. It’s miles away from places like Nakiryu, Ramen Itto, and Tsuta, despite being listed alongside these places in "Top 10" lists...
Read moreWONDERFUL Tsukemen experience. The Old lady shop owner was so adorable and speaks enough English to help explain the menu on the Vending machine and even helped with instruction on how to properly enjoy Tsukemen.
The very thick broth is always served seperately from the noodles, along with any extra meat or bamboo
The menu is as follows. Top Row is for Cold noodles , bottom row is for Warm noodle in a dashi broth. ( locals seem to favor cold , for texture and contrast) . Just go for the Special Cold (First option , first row)
Once seated. You will be asked for 200, 250, or 300g of noodles (all included in the price you paid)
Dip the noodles and/or meat into the broth and slurp away. Do this little by little. DONT mix everything together.
Once your broth turns cold halfway through your meal , ask for a Hot stone . She will drop it onto a metal spoon which you then drop onto your broth.
6.When all noodles are done, pour Dashi broth which can be found in a kettle to dilute the thick Tsukemen broth.
The combination of Dashi and Tsukemen broth will make for an AMAZING new soup...
Read moreThis is on a few top 10 lists for Tokyo tsukemen, and I think that's correct. It's so yummy. Order by machine. Counter seating. Gets busy between 12-1330. You can order your noodles 🍜 cold 🥶 or hot 🥵. They also let you choose your noodle size. Some people order a hot stone 🔥🪨 to reheat the broth. Pretty cool sight to see. I saw a few people complain it's not as good as some other fancy Michelin star places... But that's a different class. This is a no frills great hearty bowl of tsukamen 🍜
