•Food: Exceptional. We both got the half&half eggs Benedict (one toast has bacon, the other salmon). The egg and sauce were splendid. The salmon was absolutely delicious! The bacon was good, crispier than typical Japanese bacon, but still a bit thick and floppy in spots. (I'd say the bacon is better than other cafes here, but not "100% like home.") I would order it again, but dang the salmon was so tasty! Anyway, get the eggs Benedict!!
•Coffee: Superb. There are not many Japanese cafes that prepare hand drip AND lattes well, usually it's one is good and the other is blah. When ordering a latte, you can choose light or dark roast, cow's or soy milk, and to add sugar or not (and maybe hot or cold). For hand drip, you can choose from a variety of beans (ranging from ¥600-800), and you can choose hot or cold.
•System: Once you're seated, they'll explain the coffees of the day. Then you scan the QR code for the menu, it will go to Japanese or English depending on your phone's settings. Order on your phone. When finished, bring your QR code to the register to pay.
•Ingredients & Care- You can watch them make everything by hand. The food and drinks are not fast, but they are prepared with great care to perfection.
•Atmoshphere- They did a great job creating this hipster space. There are 2 terrace tables, dogs allowed; counter seating; and table seating. Unlike many other cafes in Tokyo, it does not feel cramped; they don't pack the tables too closely. If you call and make a reservation, you might get the best seat (like us)! Many cafes in Tokyo that "feel like abroad" really miss the mark with iffy food and have terrible service by uni students, but this place is the REAL DEAL.
•Reservation: Phone only.
•Accessibility: 2 steps at the entrance....
Read moreI don't mind waiting if a place is busy, but I draw the line at waiting outside in the freezing cold and rain while staring through the window at empty tables. I have never seen service move so slowly, we were seated in an essentially empty cafe after waiting 1 hour and 20minuites. There were only 3 groups in front of us, but we must have seen at least 7 groups leave before we were seated.
I've worked in busy cafes that offer hand drip coffee and freshly cooked food and it should not take that long to clear tables and seat people. If this was done promptly I imagine the wait time easily could have been halved. Maybe the coffee would have arrived more slowly but people typically prefer waiting in the warm and dry. There were empty clear tables either side of us once we were eventually seated and they stayed empty until after we had already been served. Only after our coffee arrived were the group stood behind us seated.
There were also 2 covered outdoor tables and blankets that were not utalized. The covered area was also not permitted to be used by those waiting (I asked) which is insane. I would have happily sat outside but this option was not offered
The coffee and food is very good, and staff are friendly and knowledgeable (but a bit lathargic) based on variety and quality it's one of my top 5 for Shibuya and i genuinely had a really nice time once i sat down. I got a coffee from the premium selection and it was fantastic. I hope this is taken as constructive as it's an...
Read moreThis is one of the best coffee places I came to on a recent trip to Tokyo. This place is a 10-15 walk from super crowded Shibuya crossing.
It’s a decent size for a cafe with 8-10 tables and additional sitting on the window and the bar. Plus couple of tables outside on the patio, which has a street view looking into a residential neighborhood.
Talking about the food and coffee, I found it to be pretty decent. The avocado toast with poached egg and their bread was one of the best I have in Tokyo. For the coffee, I went for the dark roast of the day in cappuccino and it was worth.
I also end up buying coffee beans from them. I went for Guatemala coffee with a fruity aroma and honey. The attendant there helped me select one based on my taste and I must say he was very knowledgeable. They also helped to grind the coffee and re-packaged it for me. For the grind I asked them for a Moka pot grind. I tried the coffee once I was back home and it is one of the best so far.
The atmosphere inside was very charming with a mixture of locals and tourists. The coffee place is certainly worth visiting if you are in the Shibuya...
