This is a very special review because of what happened at my visit here. I did not have cash or a physical card on me and it was my last night in Tokyo. I asked if "visa touch" which is the common term used in Tokyo to indicate contactless card payments was accepted. I don't think they understood but it seemed like "yes, yes, please sit down". It was also the fourth ramen place I was visiting that night realizing at the other three that they were cash only.
To reconfirm, I asked again when the food came, showing the chef the phone with the apple wallet card open - then he said.. no.. but he said that since the food was cooked, I should eat and pay next time. I tried to explain that I had no "next time"in the near future and he just kept asking to relax and not worry about the money.
In the end, I went back to the hotel and took the card that I had to the ATM only to realize that it was not going to work there.
I was so moved by the welcoming and kind atmosphere, that I can only give this place my best recommendation. I'll pay him the next time I am in Tokyo. With some interest or perhaps a small present.. I can't imagine something like this happening in Europe or the USA. The kindness of Japan is unparalleled in the west.
Oh and for the food, I had the cilantro tonkotsu and it was exquisite. I will 100% visit again...
Read moreHad the spicy tuna ramen based on the other reviews and recommendations. This joint was one of the few open in the area at 8pm so I couldnt be picky. Personally, I found the broth a bit too fishy for my liking. This was the first time I tried a fish ramen. The tuna was quite nicely scorched tho and it was a steamy dinner for the winter cold. Some other regular locals ordered it too tho and seemed to be enjoying themselves. Yhe gyoza was quite oily but yummy. I suppose if you dont mind the fishy flavour, this cosy joint wld be great for u! Service was warm...
Read moreExcellent tuna ramen, it is not a normal bowl that you can find in any ramen shop.
What's more remarkable is this is a one man shop and the excellent multi tasking skill is in effect as soon as you walk in!
Back to the ramen, you definitely get the tuna umami and some may find it fishy but it really grows on you , you will want to continue eating it! They also serve amazing gyoza originated...
