EN/ME — Restaurant in Tsuruoka

One of the very few modern work/dining cafes in Tsuruoka, and it just so happens to be spectacular. EN/ME is a real breath of fresh air with a luxurious city-feeling, comparable only to the towns community center/hotel: Suiden Terasse.

Their menu is full of dishes that sound good but exceed expectations when they arrive. I highly recommend the seasonal veggie-based "farmer's plate", simply ALL of the desserts, and the bittersweet matcha lattes.

After having lunch, head upstairs with a pastry or two to catch up on some emails. The entire second floor is a quiet free use space outfitted with outlets, free wifi, and well-placed elegant plants–perfect for people looking to work on their laptops.

!!Also!! All of their to-go leftover pastries and breads go on sale, usually late afternoon. Often they post videos of what’s left on their Instagram stories so be sure to check over there beforehand. If you are headed out for hiking the next day, stop by and grab some tasty snacks...

It’s a clean and calm place so you can come to relax and talk with friends, the croissant was quite delicious, crunchy from the outside and soft and wet from inside, the coffee was good too, we ordered other 2 breads apart from the croissant and wasn’t that good, specially the one filled with raisins, was super heavy and too sweet, the bread with olive was hard that even hurt teeth. If you order croissant you’ll not be wrong at all so I recommend you that one. They also have carrot cup cakes, I would ordered if I noticed before.

The cashier (super skinny and young lady with a lot of make up in her mouth one) was quite rude, maybe because I am foreigner, since the beginning she talk in a very mean and disrespectful way to me, she’s young so maybe she still don’t know how to treat customers. I visit at least 2 cafes every week so I know what’s the correct way to treat customers and this was the worst customer service I’ve ever had. Thanks to her attitude I give...

One of the best cafes I’ve been to, the food was excellent and we loved it so much we went back twice. The classic hamburger was really good, but the fish burger was a little lacklustre compared with all the other excellent food.

We also had the Farmers’ spread (not sure what it was called as it was a special, that was locally-sourced items) and the doughnuts (pumpkin cream and espresso marron) which were 10/10.

Definitely worth the trip but also slight wait as they were crowded. But good things come to...
