Sabo Kunugi — Restaurant in Uji

Nice small tea room offering many foods including matcha. We went for the matcha parfait and matcha zensai.

The parfait was decent but not anything you couldn't get anywhere else. The zensai was good due to the quality of the matcha and the azuki which offset the bitterness of the matcha nicely.

It was a bit on the expensive side but there is a really nice view of Uji river just outside the window and the fact that the husband/father was sitting just outside the window tending to his potted plants really added to the feeling that you had stepped into...

unagi was thick, soba noodles were refreshing, tempura was slightly cold but the ingredients (vegetables) were fresh, red bean soup was slightly sweeter than i expected but i suppose that japanese style red bean soup are like that, the mochi inside the red bean soup was really nice, a lot of red beans inside the soup too. overall, i liked the unagi rice the most, it was even better than some famous unagi rice that i've tried in osaka (unagi was cooked just...

Homey little place by the river to slurp some matcha soba. We came for lunch and ordered the soba noodle set. You can order your noodles either cold or in a hot broth. The accompanying snacks such as tofu and a few slices of broiled eel were really nice as well. Riverside location is another plus....
