Getting to this place can be a little tricky so you might want to use google map. If you are coming from JR line, the stop to get off is Uji Station. From there onwards, open up your google map and search for Takumi-no Yakata. Follow the directions given to you via the app. To reach to Takumi-no Yakata, it takes about 10 to 15mins walk from the station and you have to walk along the Uji Bridge. After hitting the end of the bridge you actually get to read some of the history about the bridge. Once done reading make a right turn and walk all the way in and keeping left. Eventually you will hit a junction and there are 2 roads. Just stay on the left lane and you should see the tea house within the next few steps. Best is to use google maps.
The experience at the tea house is awesome. It is a very small place, nice and quiet. The staffs are not really proficient in English so you may take some time to be able to understand them. Upon ordering your tea, they will show you the pictures of the tea and how it is being made. Following by guiding you how to make and drink the tea. You can even eat the tea leaves and surprisingly the leaves are really delicious!
This place however, do not sell any tea leaves. If you are looking to buy the teas, the staffs will most likely recommend you to get the teas just along the small little road before the Uji Bridge. You may want to search for byodoin omote-sando in...
Read moreA bit of background: We wanted to have a tea ceremony in Japan, and have found that the term is used loosely in Japan. It can be a 5 minute ceremony where you kneel in a tea house, and are handed a cup of tea with a cookie, or it can be up to a 4 hour ceremony.
This experience is not a tea ceremony. Rather, it's a tea making lesson. You have a choice of tea, we chose Matcha, and they have you make it, under their instruction. You also have a choice of candy to go with your cup of tea. I highly recommend this experience if you ever plan to make a cup of proper...
Read moreLovely place to learn about tea and how to brew it. The people who work there are very nice and eaay to talk to. We made Sencha and Gyokuro and both were delicious. Prior to this experience I was not a fan of green tea (only liked black tea and coffee) this opened my eyes to a new flavors that I didn't know were available in green tea (sencha was the best, my personal opinion, my husband like both and he likes all things green tea). Highly recommend this place to all green tea lovers and those who may not know they like it yet! I now can say I...
