Conveniently located right inside the train station, they serve a pretty unique "Wakkanai ramen" that seems to be a shoyu base topped with lots of beautiful seafood. The soup base is actually surprisingly good so such an unassuming place, with a pretty deep flavour and nicely salted. The toppings are the real special part with shrimp, scallops, and squid. The noodles are just standard store bought yellow squiggly guys, but they're decent enough. It's pretty pricy at ¥1300 but given the toppings, I say it's worth it. Overall a 7.7/10 bowl. With really good noodles it could be an 8+.

Despite the attitude of the staff here, the food is good and very affordable. The ramen and pork rice set I ordered came exactly as described, and was very tasty and filling. I waited no more than 5-10 minutes. It wasn't busy either when I visited in the afternoon, and it was very clean. Seating is limited though, only 3 tables, 2 mats and 4 bar chairs.

利尻昆布そばをいただきました。予想通りわりと普通のソバでしたが、こんぶは美味しかった。こんぶだしもよい。乗り変えの時間が少なかったのでこちらにしましたが、時間があったらチャーメンとかもっとご当地もの頼むか、別のところで食べたかも知れない。。。

後日再訪。稚内駅界隈で30分で食事できる場所はほかには見当たらず、ここはそういう意味では貴重。十二時二十分にお店に入り、午後一時のサロベツ号に普通に間に合った。

2回目は「わっかないラーメン」にしました。海鮮の出汁がうまい。エビ、イカは少しですが、ホタテはたくさん入っていました。費用対効果のら塩ラーメン、ご当地っぽさならチャーメンのほうが妥当で、地元の方はチャーメン一択の様子でした。

稚内まで来るんだったら、時間に余裕を持ってうまいもの食べるスケジュールにしておくことが肝要です。しかし本数の少ない宗谷本線のことなので、必ずしもそうは...
