Locke's — Restaurant in St. Helier

Walked in the venue. Waited a while. No one came to me. Then a couple walked and two people walked up and greeted them, took them to a table, then carried on ignoring me. Then a man came up and asked me if I wanted something, so I said “it would’ve been nice to have been greeted as quickly and warmly as that couple who came after me”. I deliberately didn’t say it harshly because I was still hoping to be served. His response? No apology. Didn’t offer me a table. He simply frowned and aggressively retorted ‘You don’t have to be rude’. I left the establishment quite shaken. Was it because I was a female on my own? Was it because I’m Black? A beautifully located spot for breakfast in the centre of St Helier’s. Recommend booking in advance as it does get very busy. We visited on a Saturday and were seated straight away with a group of 6 of us. We were served quickly and were given several recommendations from the staff. We went for the ‘Avo Good day’, ‘Eggs your way’, and the ‘Friends with Benedict’s’. Food was served reasonably quick, as the restaurant was very busy, including our hot drinks. All meals were delicious. Prices are on the slightly higher side, matching prices you would expect to see in London, so expect a higher bill if planning to visit. I could say this is one of our favourite places for brunch and good coffee too. Sometimes I receive kind of a cappuccino instead of a flat-white but perfect temperature so I don't mind so much. Plus we love their Friends with Benedict so definitely recommend this place. Bacon and sausage from the side dish options are also pretty good. You can ask for additional sauce for an extra £3. This was not on the extra sides list so we weren't sure whether it was free but there it was, on the bill :). We'll be there again soon though.
