Taipei. One of the best Chinese Restaurants in Amman. Ignore the decor and the ambiance…go there for the food! The decor and ambiance is basic; nothing fancy. But the food is exceptional! And the preparation is fast! In Jordan, in many restaurants I found that generally we had to wait for a long time for the food to arrive. But in this place, the food was delivered very quickly. Perhaps this delay in other places was because of Ramadan (limited staff etc?). I visited Jordan from March 16 thru March 22 2025 which was smack in the middle of Ramadan. But this place had three chefs working and they were churning out dishes fast. In addition, the service was also excellent which is not always the case in Jordan.
My favorite dishes were: hot and sour soup and crispy fried rice with chicken which was heavenly! The rice is crispy and crunchy and the sauce they pour on top is yummy! Even the sweet and sour chicken is fantastic (see pictures).
Also the portions of most dishes is enough to serve two people. By the way, the sweet corn chicken soup was not the best. I found it too sweet and too thick (almost like porridge consistency).
The prices were reasonable; about USD50 for 3 people and we ordered a...
Read moreAt first, I felt like a bit of an intruder, as the restaurant was empty at lunch time. The menu was fairly standard “Chinese” fare. I was disappointed by the shark fin soup. It arrived scalding hot and rather lumpy. My main dish however was well presented and the prawns and chicken were tasty and delightfully spicy. I always fear overly bland flood in Chinese restaurants and was pleasantly surprised that they had heated this dish up nicely with peppers and decorated the platter with cucumber slices. The service was quick and efficient. The atmosphere was lame, as they had TVs playing garbage American programs and the radio was blasting rock music at the same time. With that said, the decor was quite nice, though a little dated. It would be a great place for dining out as a group and sharing plate after plate of “Kung Pao” and “sizzling” dishes. The prices were reasonable, but it didn’t seem adapted for the...
Read moreThe place has a nostalgic charm, a bit old but still neat and pleasant. Every time I visit, it’s been quiet, sometimes feeling like I’m the only customer, which is a shame because the food is actually quite nice. The sweet and sour chicken was a tad too sweet for my taste, but still decent. I really enjoyed the General Tso's chicken, flavorful with a nice spicy kick. The chow mein with beef was generous on the meat, which I really appreciated. The sauces that came with the dishes were also tasty and well-seasoned.
Price-wise, it’s fair for Amman standards. Portions are good and filling. I’ve seen reviews mentioning unfriendly staff, but in my experience, the staff have always been kind, attentive, and knowledgeable. I believe it's a place that deserves more attention and I hope more people...
