Darejani — Restaurant in Almaty

This restaurant was already on my list to try in Almaty, so I decided to come here for a late dinner. Maybe not the perfect timing for a proper meal, but I really wanted to try Georgian food for the first time. The restaurant itself is beautiful and cozy. First, I ordered khachapuri – it’s a must-try Georgian dish. I chose the one with egg yolk, and it felt really special. The dough was soft, creamy, and crunchy like pizza. Super tasty, but also quite heavy, so I got full pretty fast. For my protein, I picked chicken chakhokhbili, which is chicken stewed in tomato sauce with some capsicum and rich spices. The flavors were strong, with a nice sour kick from the tomato. It was pretty good! I also paired my meal with a local Georgian semi-dry wine, which went well with the food.

One thing to note: the waitress gave me a special menu from the chef, but it was all written in Kazakh with no English translation or explanation. I was too lazy to ask (thanks to the language barrier), but maybe just a small suggestion—adding English subtitles on the chef’s special menu would help, since not all visitors are locals.

Great service, delicious food, lovely place. Even though it is on the more expensive side, it makes dinner a very special experience. My husband and I ended up going there on two separate trips to Almaty - both times were delightful. Greatly appreciate that they have the menu in both Russian and English. As far as dishes, everything we ordered was great, but our favorites were khachapuri with chicken and mushrooms, megrelian-style chicken, and beetroot ganache tart (чархлис тарт'и). That last one was so unique and tasty, unlike any other desert we've ever had. Also, make sure to try their crème brulée - the little orange slice on top was an unexpected but delightful addition. They also have a very diverse and refreshing selection of lemonades: sea-buckthorn with orange was delicious and the tarragon one was my personal favorite. Ho avuto il piacere di cenare in questo ristorante georgiano ad Almaty e posso affermare che è stata un’esperienza davvero unica. Le pietanze erano veramente prelibate, preparate con ingredienti freschi e di alta qualità. L'ambiente era particolarmente rilassante e gradevole, perfetto per una serata in compagnia.

Il personale è stato gentilissimo e molto cordiale. Un ragazzo, che credo sia il responsabile, ci ha servito e parlava un ottimo inglese, il che ha reso la nostra esperienza ancora più piacevole. È stato in grado di consigliarci diverse pietanze, e non possiamo che raccomandare i Khinkali: semplicemente fantastici!

La carta dei vini è buona e offre diverse opzioni per accompagnare i piatti. I prezzi sono commisurati alla qualità del ristorante, quindi ne vale sicuramente la pena. In definitiva, è stata un'ottima esperienza e tornerò sicuramente quando sarò in zona per lavoro.

I had the pleasure of dining at a Georgian restaurant in Almaty, and I can confidently say it was a truly unique experience. The dishes we enjoyed were exceptionally delicious, prepared with fresh and high-quality ingredients. The atmosphere was particularly relaxing and pleasant, ideal for a night out.

The staff was incredibly kind and friendly. A young man, whom I believe was the manager, served us and spoke excellent English, which made our experience even more enjoyable. He was able to recommend various dishes, and we highly recommend trying the Khinkali—they were simply fantastic!

The wine list is good and offers several options to accompany the meals. The prices are in line with the quality of the restaurant, so it is definitely worth it. Overall, it was a great experience, and I will certainly return when I'm in the area for work.
