In my personal opinion, Tonkotsu ramen represents the essence of what ramen truly is. Unfortunately, I'm sure I'll never try one in Kazakhstan as it goes against many people's religious beliefs. But I appreciate that people are trying to bring ramen to Kazakhstan. In these complicated times, we went with the delivery. What can I say? It is definitely something that has potential but is nothing like Japanese ramens that I've tried. Knowing that Tantanmen ramen is based on Chinese Sichuan cuisine, I expected very bold flavors but got something rather mild. Again, ramen shouldn't always be pork-based to have a strong base. I've tried numerous chicken Shoyu and Shio ramens that still had an intense taste. Sadly, I can't say the same about Tantanmen from Ramen77. But the most surprising was Kimchi ramen. It straight up tastes like beef goulash soup. Absolutely not what I was expecting. And it barely has kimchi taste and spiciness. Tuna ponzu rolls were pretty good. However, the way they packed them made rolls stick to each other, turning everything into a mushy mess. As I mentioned earlier, I appreciate the efforts made to popularize ramens in Kazakhstan, but I think there is still a...
Read moreThis place is so stylish. The neon pink lighting reminds me of Chinatown in Dubai Mall.
First I had chili miso ramen. Could have used a bit more chili, but that’s a personal preference. Other than that, it was pretty decent, albeit not amazing.
I also had chicken gyoza. The meat taste ‘off’ to me so I didn’t finish it. The manager noticed and offered to remake it or make something else though, which I appreciate.
It’s an ABR owned restaurant. I mention it because I’ve visited a few of their restaurants now and they consistently deliver in atmosphere/style while underperforming in the flavor department. (Or maybe my taste buds are just not aligned with their target audience.)
Finally, I had an Yichang beer. I would have had an Asahi beer but the pricing for that was 3000 KZT for 330ml and that’s beyond bonkers. Anyway. The Yichang beer was a lot cheaper and did not disappoint. I was surprised I had never heard of it before so I googled it. It appears to be a legit Chinese (Hebei) beer but it primarily seems to target the Kazach market. Neat. I’d totally order this beer again. In fact, I’m still in the restaurant as I write this and will order...
Read moreTonight I went there with my sister. In general food was fine, but the service was surprisingly bad coz I had foreign card and had limit , so my sister went 2 the nearest ATM for withdrawing the money. I was sitting there only for 10-15 minutes for my sister to come back and during these minutes they constantly asked for the payment(they knew my situation and I am not ruining away) and wanna make me leave their cafeteria coz other guests came and they didn’t even ask if we want to order something else(coz we did). As a result, we felt so uncomfortable and left this place ASAP. Thanks God we were only for a couple of days in Almaty , but the impression was so bad only coz of one...
