This hostel is perfectly situated to enjoy Almaty in a walking tour. It is especially easy to reach from the airport on Bus 86 or 79 with the stop being 300 meters from the terminal, or by Bus 92 which picks up directly from the terminal to the right of the exit at arrivals (Availability:|06:30 - 21:30) for 150 tenge cash or 80 tenge with a transit card, instead of the 1,000 tenge daytime or 1,500 nighttime fare charged by taxi drivers. Bus 86 or 79 pass directly in front of the hostel, while Bus 92 passes down Naurizbay batyr Street four blocks away or Zheltoksan Street which is five blocks away.||From the Almaty 2 train station bus number 37 works, and for Almaty 1 train station bus 2 picks up outside the hostel, and is also 150 tenge versus comparable cab fares from the airport. ||Bus 147 goes to the Green Market from outside the hostel.||The entrance is at the south west corner of the building at the back side of the structure. ||GPS: 43.24748, 76.94728||The staff at Nice Hostel are very attentive and friendly. I got up at 02:00 one morning, and the lady here woke up and got out tea for me and then went back to bed. People share food and treat visitors more like family. It is a new hostel, having opened in May. ||Information on Almaty for tourism is scarce in English, and the hosts here helped me to find museum information on Kazak and Russian websites. As I spent a disproportionate amount of time trying to find information on things to see in Almaty and the staff were so helpful in finding this, it is included below.||The following Almaty museums and points of interest are all within 1.5 km of the hostel:||The Ascension Cathedral |Вознесенский Кафедральный Собор is being renovated on the outside, but is still open for visits. Read moreWhile our basic double room was fairly clean and spacious, this was about the only plus point for this shocking hostel. All the rooms are squeezed off a tiny corridor which serves as a reception, meaning you are constantly woken up by the door buzzer and other guests.||When we visited we were also kept up by the staff partying in the small kitchen until gone 1am. This was the only communal area and it was not a nice place to hang out or meet other travellers — we both agreed the experience would have been even worse if we had been travelling solo. ||Most of the staff were extremely unhelpful; they had little knowledge of how to organise multi-day trips to popular sights (such as Saty and the Kaindy canyon). The one taxi they booked for us was totally overpriced (we later discovered we could have saved a lot by using Uber).||There was only one shower room/toilet which was small and often dirty.||This isn’t a nice hostel, it’s a disgusting budget hotel...
Read moreA humble cozy place where you can relax after a plane before you go to the mountains to climb. Everything is clean, very dignified, inexpensive, good breakfast, good-natured staff, friendly, and, thanks in a special way - very patient to the tediousness of an outrageous alpinist. I bought and was collecting groceries, so the administration allocated me a place and tolerated everything with restraint and constantly treated me by tea and cookies, were very courteous. Thank you for the true eastern brotherly...
