📍 Spot: Daily Poison Breakfast, Vilnius 💰 Damage: ~€37 for three dishes and two coffees
⚡ Long Story Short: Some truly standout dishes, but the overall experience lacked warmth, attentiveness, and problem-solving. A mixed bag.
THE STORY: 🔥 First Impression: This wasn’t my first visit - having brunched here in their early days, I was curious to see how they’ve evolved. The fact that they’ve lasted this long is a good sign. However, from the moment we walked in, there was no greeting, no smile, just a neutral, almost indifferent atmosphere. Maybe it’s my own expectation that brunch spots should be cozy, a bit bubbly - after all, most guests are still half-asleep and starving for good food. The reservation had a mix-up (we booked for two, the system had four), but since there were plenty of open seats, it wasn’t an issue. Still, the hostess lacked any warmth.
👅 Taste Test:
Flavors: The food itself was a rollercoaster. The Teddy Sandwich? One of the best breakfast bites I’ve ever had - perfectly scrambled eggs, umami-rich mushrooms, all coming together in a satisfying, hearty dish. The curd cheese pancakes, despite my aversion to sweet breakfasts, were actually enjoyable. The eggs Benedict was solid, but then came the downfall: the potato pancake. A complete disaster. The plating alone was a mess - the salmon was lazily thrown onto the rim of the plate with zero care, looking like an afterthought. The pancakes were bland, the house-cured salmon had no real flavor beyond its unnaturally bright orange hue (more vibrant than an Aperol Spritz), and the herb sauce felt oddly artificial. Ending my brunch on this note ruined the fantastic aftertaste of the Teddy Sandwich.
Presentation: Inconsistent - some plates were thoughtfully composed, while others looked like they had been thrown together last minute.
💁 Service Check:
Attitude: Lacking warmth. No greeting upon entry, no smiles, no real engagement. Brunch spots should have at least a hint of liveliness, and this felt cold.
Speed: Functional, not particularly attentive.
Knowledge: The staff seemed competent but uninvolved.
✨ The Experience:
Highlights: The Teddy Sandwich is a star dish, and the eggs Benedict and curd cheese pancakes also held their own.
Letdowns: The potato pancake was a culinary failure. More importantly, when I approached the manager to politely share my thoughts (as someone deeply invested in Lithuania’s food culture), he listened attentively and thanked me. However, no attempt was made to remedy the issue - any small complimentary gesture. Not that I was looking for freebies, but in hospitality, problem-solving here & now (not after a review is issued) is key, and the lack of it made the experience feel incomplete.
🏁 Final Verdict: Daily Poison has some phenomenal dishes, but the lack of warmth and problem-solving left me with mixed feelings. If you go, order wisely (avoid the potato pancake at all costs), but don’t expect a hospitality masterclass. Will I return? Maybe - for the Teddy Sandwich, but certainly not for...
Read moreDuring a recent visit to Daily Poison, I had the absolute pleasure of indulging in two of their signature offerings from the “Daily Sweets” menu – and I can honestly say it was a feast for both the eyes and tastebuds.
Presented like a work of art, the homemade curds came nestled beside fresh seasonal fruits—kiwi, banana, and a dusting of powdered sugar. The curds were golden, slightly crispy on the outside, and delicately soft within, offering a delightful contrast in texture. Accompanied by a tangy yogurt and a rich jam, every bite felt lovingly crafted. The balance of sweet and tart was spot on – simple ingredients elevated by careful execution.
Then came my favorite – the French Toast. Thick slices of fluffy brioche bread, perfectly golden, soaked up just the right amount of sweetness. Topped with beautifully caramelized banana and drizzled with luscious caramel sauce, the dish felt indulgent without being overpowering. A scoop of ice cream on the side, lightly dusted with cocoa, sealed the deal. The warmth of the toast paired with the cold creaminess was nothing short of magical.
On a previous visit, I tried the So Choco bowl. A colorful explosion of bananas, strawberries, blueberries, and dark chocolate shavings, harmonized by a rich blend of peanut butter, cacao, and vegan milk – this was health and taste in one bowl. Every spoonful delivered a mix of smooth, crunchy, fruity, and chocolatey goodness.
From presentation to flavor, every dish was a celebration of quality ingredients and thoughtful preparation. Whether you're looking for something comforting, fresh, or just photogenic (because wow – the plating is Instagram-worthy), Daily Poison delivers on all fronts. Highly recommend for a sweet escape into...
Read moreExcellent service, great food and welcoming atmosphere. I came here weary and with a heavy backpack, speaking English. The man working noticed I was traveling and tired, and immediately welcomed me and offered me the WiFi password first thing. That was incredibly appreciated. He then went on to recommend the cold beet soup, which wasn't yet on the menu but had been recently added. It was incredibly refreshing, tangy and tasty and served with fried potatoes. This is a classic Lithuanian dish and happened to be the inspiration and main subject of a city-wide festival the following weekend called the pink soup fest. So I was quite happy to be introduced to it so quickly. I also ordered the avocado toast with eggs and salmon which were all delicious and peppered to perfection. I also tried out a drink that I had never heard of before coming to Vilnius: espresso and orange juice. This is a drink I've since seen on the menu at other cafes in Vilnius. It's a thing! It was served about half and half and layered with orange juice on the bottom and espresso on top. It was actually really good! I also really enjoyed the simple closed courtyard to the side to catch some air and enjoy the artistic line drawing murals on the wall. All in all this was a lovely stop and I feel blessed to have stumbled upon this unpretentious and...
