I am an ardent believer that the little guys has what it takes too. So what has it got to do with this establishment? They have been around for decades and are well known among chicken rice enthusiasts or foodies. My curiosity finally got the better of me and finally I decided to give it a go. Many times the food reviews tend to amp up the excitement and expectations. So I was consciously keeping those in check and I went in with an open mind. No frills, no add ons..i kept to the basics..just good old white steamed chicken rice. Before I dwell into the taste, let's just take a moment to talk about the ambience. Looking in from the restaurant proper, you get the impression it is a small place. Little did I know that it takes up 2 shops and it is fully air conditioned with separate rooms to cater for bigger crowds. However if you are solo or just dining for 2, fret not there is always a table for you too. The sink area is immaculately clean. It has been awhile since I last come across such a clean, well maintained restaurant. The floor is spotless. They even provide the foam hand soap dispenser. From the dining area, the kitchen is visible and what is most astonishing is the layout and organisation of the kitchen and plates.. shows much thought has been put into it by the owners. They resemble those of fine dining restaurants. You get what I mean? Everything has its place. Nothing unsightly like stacking of things here and there or everywhere. Crew are polite, efficient and attentive. A young Chinese lad can also be heard recommending dishes even though it is just chicken rice. Very proactive and good salesmanship but there is not an instance of hard selling. The vibe is really good. Owing to the fact that it is comfortable and tables are quite sparsely positioned, patrons are more relaxed and can have conversations without having to scream to drown out the noise. Audibly pleasant place. Now comes to the food. The white steamed chicken is as tender as it can be. Not too long in the pot. The meat still maintains its hold and succulent right till the end. Portions are just right and the complimentary veg soup is perfect. Not too much salt and you can really taste what ingredients goes into the making of the soup. Tasty right to the very last drop. If there is a wishlist for improvement, I would have to say its the garlic chillie sauce. It is just a bit too much vinegar for my liking. Typically, when the garlic chillie is scooped and placed next to the rice, it would just stay there and not permeate every thing it comes into contact and turned the rice tasting like vinegar. (Yup! You read right. Vinegar) I think the ratio of garlic, chillie is fine but vinegar is a bit too much til it loses the balance and overpowers garlic and chillie. The next thing would be the light soya sauce, a little more effort goes a long way. The sauce is at present, lacklustre. It is just drizzled light soya sauce. Not extraordinary and quite unexpectedly so. So, my take on my visit here : Ambience 5 star, Service and attentiveness 5 Star, Cleanliness 5 Star, Affordability 4 Star, Tenderness of Chicken 5 Star, Sauce for the chicken 2 Star and Garlic chilli...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOn the food alone, I'd give this place 4.5 stars but I'm rounding up to 5 because of the good value! It's a bit far from everything else but still easy to get to!
I had a quarter chicken (white chicken), small bean sprouts, small rice, an herbal tea (liang cha), and a small plate of chicken innards.
Chicken: perfectly succulent. Not too tender like some of those overly gelatinous feeling birds, but really, just perfect texture. Very good chicken flavor, but not the deepest I've ever had. If I had sprung for the free range chicken, I bet it would have been better. However, I was still very happy with this chicken. The chili sauce is not sweet and has a bit of acid which is great. I actually preferred the ginger sauce mixed with the chili sauce. 5/5
Rice: Not the best chicken rice, not very fragrant and doesn't have significant chicken fat and broth flavor. 3/5
Bean sprouts: nice and fresh, crisp. A bit of sweetness and savoriness, some shallot oil perhaps. Nice addition to the meal 4/5
Chicken Innards: so I had to try these because I read on a blog that they were pretty good here. I admit that they were cleaned very well, no off flavors at all and the intestine has a surprisingly crisp texture. The gizzards weren't bad either. However, they're definitely on the bland side so they taste more of condiments that of anything themselves.
All of this food was 28RM - a great deal in my opinion. Service was friendly and although staff was primarily Cantonese, they did send a Mandarin-speaking server my way and I saw a Bangladeshi family ordering in English so it...

We were there for lunch on a weekend. The crowd has dispersed but still many customers came in for late lunch.
We ordered half portion corn fed steamed chicken (rm48) and a small plate of gizzards (rm8), small portion braised tofu and egg and 3 chicken rice. We also ordered barley fuchuk which was served in a bottle.
We like the chicken rice. Very flavourful. You can eat it on its own.
The corn fed steam chicken has nice texture, smooth skin, not very oily. Well seasoned and juicy. Almost perfect.
Most shops donāt sell chicken intestines. Here, we really enjoyed the gizzards of chicken intestines and liver. They were well prepared and cooked. Good crunch too. No unpleasant smell or taste.
Also, even though we didnāt ask, we were served a bowl of very delicious soup made from chicken leftovers and dried vegetables. Their chili and ginger sauce paired well with the chicken.
We would recommend this shop for their steamed chicken...
