Thong Kee Pandan Indah: Good place for Kopi and Kaya Butter snacks.
Thong Kee has to be one of the most consistently tasty Hainanese kopitiams around. I was introduced to this particular outlet a couple of years back. It was already very popular back then. I have since been to their original shop in Bentong and Seapark branch as well.
I say consistently tasty because no matter which particular outlet I'm at, the kopi and their Cham taste just as good. This applies to their kaya butter croissant 🥐 too, which incidentally is delicious. I think it's a bit pricey at $6.50 a piece, but it's really quite good.
The kaya is so fragrant, you know like those old school Hainanese kaya of yonder years. An example would be the kaya seller many years back, who used to peddled his ware at the crossroad of Petaling Street, next to the famous Chee Cheong Fun seller. That was a truly delicious tasting kaya of days long gone.
It's nice that Thong Kee still makes kaya that's almost as good. And you can also buy their kaya for home consumption.
Not many such franchises are able to maintain this type of consistency across all branches. Many such as Kluang station and the Teochew Penang Cendul have main outlets that taste decent, but that level of consistency does not flow through to many of their shops elsewhere.
One thing I notice is that the staff here are generally young, energetic and highly motivated. I understand that's because they hire these young chaps and pay them well, so the results are there for all to see.
TK does have a rather extensive menu, but I stick to kopi and kaya butter croissant 🥐 each time. That basically does it for me. If you're in the mood for a good cuppa and some kaya butter snack, give Thong Kee a try. You'll enjoy it.
A word of caution though. Try to come during off peak periods, coz breakfast and lunch is super packed. Good thing is if you manage to get a seat, their service is super efficient, so it's only...
Read moreI am complaining her poor service! Yesterday I visited thong kee with my family. I ordered my food and beverages through the counter as yesterday is the public holiday. Customers have to order food over the counter. It’s in hurry as there were too many customers and long queue. Few minutes later, there’s a Malay lady delivered the things that we ordered. I noticed she sent wrong beverage and I tried to ask about it, she showed me an order receipt and insists that she was sending the right things to us. Then I guess it might be the guy who took the wrong order. I don’t want to get into trouble in argument, so I decided to drink whatever they gave. Few minutes later, the same lady sent the correct drinks that I ordered previously, I wonder why they were sending again. She scolded me that I have drink the wrong beverage and that’s belong to other table. Then I asked why she insisted that she was sending the right drinks in few minutes ago. She starts yelling at me to prove that she was right. I felt awkward and found difficulties in communicate with her. Therefore, I wanted to talk with her senior or boss and I noticed she was sending the wrong food to us again. In the end, problem solved by her boss Actually it’s a small matter. But the way she talked and very rude attitude makes me feel upset for whole day. The situation of how’s she talked keeps repeating in my brain. So I decided to give very bad review. For the one who organizes this restaurant, he/she should train staffs well in how to read tables number and how to provide good service, and I know it’s a kopitiam, could not expect more from them but at least should not scold your customer while you did the...
Read moreHave been their customer quite awhile from 1 store to 2 connected stores. From focusing just on their beverages, pastry and etc into different variety including CKT, pan mee and pork noodles...previously tried their CKT twice...super duper oily hence it doesn't give me the confidence and courage to try their other foods anymore lol...
Satisfaction and experience has been deteriorating ever since...
my favourite Cham Ice (RM4.90) no longer taste nice and special as it used to be anymore...
Milo Hot (RM3.70), seems super concentrated more like a sauce than a drink to me...need to add water to dilute it lol..might be a one off situation, not too sure about it
Hainan Toast (RM3.20 per set) and Half Boiled Onzen Eggs (RM3.60 per set) still able to maintain their usual standard which I appreciate it.
The only food that holding onto me would be the shredded chicken and prawn hor fun (aka kai si hor fun) RM9.50 which able to maintain a consistent standard, tender shredded chicken, fresh and big prawn and most importantly the sweet and savory broth!
Hope Thong Kee able to focus to maintain good old quality and repair their reputation especially on the beverage side...diversification is good for business profit but it will hurt the business in long term since the core is no longer the unique selling point to attract me to crave for it...the competitor beside them will definitely having a good time 'welcoming' the loyal customer from Thong Kee
Feel free to have a try ;)
Another store that can try is this steamed theme food, more towards the mild taste profile but is it fresh and...
