ISHI Japanese Restaurant — Restaurant in Borneo

It was my first time dining here. The food was very good - flavourful and nicely prepared. Unfortunately, the service did not match the quality of the food. I arrived first (party of 3) and was seated at a table directly under a strong air-conditioner. I requested to move to the small corner table next to us, but was told it was reserved. When I asked about other available tables, I was then told that all tables were reserved, which gave the impression that the staff just wanted us to sit where she had decided. The staff did turn off the air conditioner at first, which I appreciated. However, shortly after, another group of three arrived and was seated at that exact corner table. Later, the air conditioner was turned back on at full blast, and when I requested for the fan speed to be lowered, my request was ignored. I ended up switching seats halfway through the meal. The restaurant was still not full when we left. Throughout the dining experience, staff were mostly chatting or on their phones. It was difficult to get their attention, and even when I did, one staff member pointed to another instead of attending to us. Great food, but the service needs significant...

This is my 2nd visit to this place. I gave 5 stars on the first visit. Everything is superb. But on the 2nd visit there were order mistake and quality of some food has gone down.

I had a reservation, and a day before I was told it is full house on the day so I should pre-order. And I did, noting down the code and name of the food in case I made some mistake, which I eventually did. Whoever entered the order didn't verify the name of the food, and this resulted in a correction when I arrived, which lead to another mistake. It was a set, but the correction came without the set. That order was the last to arrive when we're almost done.

Half way through we wanted to add a 2nd order of Tamago Maki. The first one from the pre-order was good but this was a dissapointment. I make maki myself, so I could tell it was done in a rush. The rice is not packed tightly. The roll is not wrapped properly. Some disintegrated as we lift them up. Some of the pieces already openned while in the plate. I understand it's almost a full house, but at this price point, I expect the same level of service and quality compare to...

The food was average, nothing impressive. Price is definitely on the higher side.

My issue is with the service. Walked in during a weekday and was informed that it was full house so we were seated at the huge communal table in the middle of restaurant. That was fine. But while we were seated there, staff constantly ignored us until we had to walk over to them and asked them to serve us. The staff who served us were also not friendly and sounded annoyed. The price we paid definitely covers the service and this is not the level of service I was expecting from such a "high-end" sushi restaurant. Not sure if it's because of how we dressed up - we turned up in just plain shirts and jeans because we weren't planning to eat here initially - or they're just trained to treat customers with reservations better.
