I am from Sandakan, I am now an expat in Hong Kong. It is my 4th year in Hong Kong. During my visit to this restaurant it was very extremely disappointing as it does not in any way represent a real Hong Kong dishes. At first, mainly because I realized that the dishes served was using cheap ingredients to cut cost rather than real ingredients. I ordered the signature Wantan Gan Lao Mian, Pork Chop, Chicken Chop, and several others.
The noodles was really bad, as it has this strong bizarre texture and smell, it was very hard to eat as well as it was really dried out as if it was a leftover noodle left from a previous order but it was cooked claimed by them. The soup didn't taste fresh, it stinks and smells like a leftover fish soup. The pork and chicken was descent and nothing special.
I was very disgusted when I tried eating it, there is no way anyone could have enjoy eating something as hard and distasteful as that let alone finish it?? Shortly, I asked them why is it like this? And asked for them to either cook my noodles that I ordered a bit more or for a new one but they INSISTED AND SAID that's how they are serving it. What? I was beginning to get a bit infuriated as the staffs are very rude to me!
I tell you people that is not how it is served in Hong Kong. I've been enjoy nice food from there and THIS PLACE IS NO WHERE...

I had the fish porridge, u hv to add ur own sesame oil n despite being a relatively big bowl rm13.50 it only had 3 slice fish which I thought was way too expensive. Usually at 13 i can hv a decent fish noodles with 4 to 5pcs of fish depending on the shop. The porridge was very plain, no fried garlic unless this is how thy eat thm in hong kong. My friend had the dumplings n for rm17 another rip off. This place is over priced, wait wen the tax goes up to 8%. Hmmm I can’t say i will return but if u hv a deep pocket thn i guess it’s ok.
UPDATE 22Jun had the beef brisket n it wasn’t bad at all, almost perfect had the broth been thicker n the soup hotter i wld hv been contented. I hv updated the rating accordingly as I noticed thy hv dis freezer like plastic wall to stop the dust frm the close by road at the same time the breeze as well, nothing is perfect. Still, No expenses spared for the benefit of the customers n dis has to be the only shop that has...
Read moreHaving been to Hong Kong and tasting the incredibly mindblowing food there, I was initially VERY skeptical about this place and came with the lowest expectations.
Oh but my oh my, it really exceeded my expectations!! The dumplings were SO LEGIT and similar to the Anthony Bourdain-endorsed dumplings I had in HK!!!! My gad. The way that shrimp just bursts in your mouth. Pleasantly surprised and impressed with this man! Also really loving fried lard bits on top of the noodles!!
Personally this variety of Kon Lau Mien is not my favourite, it is a unique style of its own. I still like our own local noodles compared to HK's, but sometimes I can appreciate this. If you're looking to try authentic Hong Kong style noodles, I think this comes...
