I have been going to Andrews Kampung regularly for a number of years and have never been disappointed with the food, service or atmosphere. There are times when the service slows down a little when they are very busy, which is quite often, especially at the busier times of the year or on Public holidays. This never seems to affect the quality of the food though, which is varied and excellent. I particularly like the sizzling chicken and pineapple fried rice. Many people, whether local, expats, or holiday makers, seem to return on a regular basis, as I have seen them return again quite often, whilst eating there myself. This includes a number of people who seem to rather like Penang and therefore, return to Penang every year (of which there are quite a few, some for up to 3 months) for their winter break from Europe, Australia, etc. As a result of my visits, I have got to know Andrew, his staff and family quite well and can say what really nice bunch of people they are. I would highly recommend the place. But, the only way to find out, is to try it. You will not be...
Read moreThis restaurant is the definition of a hidden gem! It is not very easy to reach, located on the 2nd Floor at the back of a mall. It is family owned and is serving mainly Chinese dishes in addition to some Malaysia and Thai.
We ordered the homemade spring roll as a starter, and oh man it was the best I ever tried in my life, was fully stuffed with vegetables and fried to perfection with a super crunch outside. For the main dishes, we got the sizzling beef, the meat was very tender and the sauce was silky and not too sweet. We also got their signature fried rice topped with fresh fried anchovies and spicy green pepper. The highlight of this dinner was the sweet and sour Thai style fried fish. The fish meat was very tender and the sauce was succulent and had the right consistency and sweetness. We got their homemade icetea as well, which was amazing.
This meal really put a smile on my face. All of the family members working there were very friendly and helpful and they are doing their best to make sure everyone is having...
Read moreThis is really a hidden restaurant in Batu Ferringhi. Only after few years, I read about it from Facebook posting, which gave positive review about Andrew's Kampung restaurant.
Let's start with how to find it. Basically their sign is above the Secret Recipe's sign, on the 2nd floor. But from the parking lot, it's not really visible. So when you enter the way where KFC is, look left and take the lift to 2nd floor. From there turn left, well sign is something they can improve.
Now about the food. I see they are pork free and their chef is a Malay Madam, however they do serve Beer.
We tried the special dish: Devils Chicken. It's really spicy, yet unique and very tasty. Then we also order their squid salted egg, which is also very good. The remainings are also good but ain't outstanding as the previous 2.
In all, it was a good lunch that we had. The boss, was very friendly and price wise is also acceptable. Indeed a place to consider in...
