YOU MAY WANT TO READ THIS. We came to Penang for a medical visit of my teenage sister who's seriously ill and on wheelchair. She's taken cared of by me and our mother. We booked a room through Agoda in this hotel for 2 person because normally I can sleep on a couch or share bed with my sister because she's now very skinny because of her illness and not many places to stay are available for 3. Usually just 2 or 4. If I book for 4, it would've been too expensive and a waste.
After we checked in, the receptionist saw my sister on the wheelchair and rejected us because the room is just for 2 even though she's just a small disabled child. The receptionist demanded us to upgrade to a larger room and have to add an extra bed. I asked politely if we could just add an extra bed on the same standard room. He said the extra bed is not available for the room that we've had ordered for whatever reason. The total additional charge that we MUST pay was RM400 which was more than 50% the original price that we've had booked before. The receptionist was just smiling along our arguments like it's funny. In the end, because we've already paid for the room, we had no option but to pay the extra RM400.
I understand if we're 3 adults on a business or vacation trip to Penang. But we're not. The 3rd person was just a disabled small child that her life is completely dependent to me and my mother and they completely rejected us. Everyone can say "rules are rules" but you need to consider that conditions of every single guest aren't always ideal to implement the same rules.
Okay, maybe on that day, it seemed that they've won the argument because we eventually paid what they asked us to. But actually they weren't. Because us, who do frequent trips to Penang for medical purpose won't stay here ever again.
PS. The room is quite spacious but not soundproofed, you can hear bangs and other sounds from neighbor. Facilities are ok. Not bad but not good either. The most positive thing is the location is not very far from...

Read morePretty decent hotel if you're on a budget. It's negligibly more expensive than a true budget hotel and unlike some budget hotels, you get pretty decent amenities here. A standard room comes with a two single beds (or one king sized bed), air conditioning, heated water in the bathroom, dressing table, WiFi, towels, toothbrush kit, soap, shampoo, kettle, instant coffee and bottled water (restocked daily, free), fridge and a TV with a few channels and a USB port which you can use to charge your phone in the event you forgot to bring a charger or you could plug a USB drive into it and watch your own movies etc. Would have given this place more stars if it had better pillows and more of them, each bed only comes with one pillow and the one I had felt very "hollow" and offered hardly any head/neck support which made sleeping very difficult. WiFi was a bit slow and unreliable at times, so consider getting mobile data or a portable WiFi hotspot if internet is vital for you. Some discolouration/stains on the sheets and duvet cover on one of the beds in my room. That said, the hotel staff were pretty friendly and the hotel is located in a very strategic spot, making travels to places of interest very easy. If you're getting a room here, ask for one that faces away from the...
