Happy Realm Vegetarian Food Centre — Restaurant in George Town

Happy Realm is the oldest existing vegetarian restaurant in George Town, Penang, that I know of. The two that were established before Happy Realm have since permanently closed. For over 30 years it was located on Burmah Road (now known as Jalan Burma), until very recently, when it relocated to Jalan Mandalay, occupying a two-storey terraced (row) building that was once residential. Today I visited the restaurant, the first time in a long while. The proprietor and I have grown old together! But he remains as genial as ever. Today, I had time only for a takeaway set meal. Maybe next time I'll have a leisurely lunch here. But I doubt if any items have changed. The dining area appears neat and tidy, not ostentatious like some of the newer restaurants. By the way, you've got a couple of things that need to be corrected. The photograph of a three-storey facade is of another building, probably taken by one of your contributors.The one showing a two-storey shop front is the correct picture. And the closing time...

Ordered small Dry Vegetarian Ramen, it's nice, got wokhei (can choose Soup version too). Decent portion, not too much/little. Quite a good number of vegetables & plant meat the chef cooked in the noodles.

Managed by elderly. The lady Came to check if our food is alright. Another older lady is very friendly & helpful. I thought they're the owners but they said they're just staffs.

Dined in for lunch around 1pm and Shop was pretty empty. Strike one was when the server told us to sit in a smaller table (rudely). And strike two, while looking at the menu I enquired if the dishes had egg in them as one of their menu item said "fu yong fried egg". The server could have been more courteous while answering but she wasn't! We ended up walking out. No matter how good your food is, it's the 21st century and dining experience plays a vital role...
