We had booked a Doraemon-themed room via the Agoda website. When we were showed our room, I was totally speechless. It was unlike what I saw on Agoda ~ it was MUCH BETTER than what I saw on Agoda! There was a huge hand-painted Doraemon with his buddy; Nobita on the wall. The room was fitted with a Doraemon lamp, Doraemon back rests, Doraemon cushions and Doraemon soft toys. It was as like we walked into Doraemon Land. Apart from the Doraemons, the room was clean, neatly furnished with air-conditioning, a ceiling fan and a wall-mounted TV.This room unfortunately did not come with an attached bathroom and we had to use the common bathroom at the end of the corridor. The common bathroom was a chic black and white tiles, fully furnished with toiletries and hot shower. When we went around the house, there were numerous art pieces, retro items, childhood games and antique pieces which gave a distinct flavour to this 1934 years old heritage building. If you think that this would be an old rickety building with little security, you would be in for a surprise. Planted right at the entrance, was an RFID scan, an auto-lock security gate and a manual pad-lock that you would need to unlock all three before getting in or out of the house. On the following day, as Linda was not feeling too well, we visited the owner, Mr Koh’s mum who was a Chinese physician for an acupuncture session. We had at the same time visited two of the other rooms in No. 8 Penang Old House; Totoro and Hello Kitty rooms. Both were double suite rooms. All the rooms in these two units were hand-painted and conceptualized by Mr Koh and his sibling. If you are looking at an “out-of-the-ordinary accommodation”, I would say this would be the place.Though we are out travelling most of the time and spend minimal time in the accommodation, the little time we spend in a ‘happy room’ helps to brighten one’s day and set the tone right for a fresh new day.Apart from the rooms which impressed us much, we were also heightened by the kindly staffs that we meet every morning for breakfasts.Located a few doors away, breakfasts were served under a shelter outside the Art Gallery. It was often a simple but heartwarming affair when greetings...
Read moreStay on 19 July with family of 3 persons. Booked 1 room (Tokyo Love Story Themes). Like the decoration of the rooms. Really have Japan feel. Attached bathroom are lovely as it comes with Hot shower, high tech toilet bowl and shower gel & shampoo which a lot home stay didn't provide. Room come with 2 complimentary breakfast besides home stay. Simple vegetarian breakfast and good service from 2 friendly auntie. Like the auto lock door which make me feel safety. ||||Meet Mr.Koh and his sister for check in. Very good service and patient person as he explaining everything in details. I've been told to take care this house as it's more than 80 years old. But night time was noisy as another 2 rooms occupy by youngster. It's noisy while they running here and there nights as the floor are made of wooden. It's still find as it's normal for sharing 1 house. The water dispenser are slow as you have to wait for it. So sweet that they prepared another electric kettle easier for me to make coffee and I need coffee everyday. ||||There's a small corner in lobby which you can self service to have coffee, Teh Tarik or kopi O.||There's was a small bad experience as on the next day morning when I go down lobby to fill in water there's few people outside of the house and as I know they can't open the door because I locked the door manually. There's other people shouting outside the house and asked me to open door for them. As a human sure you won't open as they are strangers and I don't know they from where and I believe they will have key if they are home stay guest. There are one maid trying to go in but she can't as she doesn't have key for manual lock. Finally i open door for them as i heard the maid saying Mr. Koh name. The things i can't accept is the attitude of the maid as after i open door for them, the maid was rude to me and blame me not open door for them. I was mad and feel sorry for Mr.Koh who hire this kind of attitude maid. ||||For sure i will come back again for my next visit to Penang. As a hotelier service is important no matter in...
Read moreBooked a single room for 3 nights, attach with bathroom but missing a toilet bowl -_-||There is water heater and a washing basin in the bath room, hair and body shampoo and fresh towel (to change daily if required) provided so there is definately no issue cleaning oneself but the only problem is it's really just an bathroom, so to do your 'business', you will still need to use the toilet at the back end of the house.||||The shared toilet was very smelly, but it got better after i flush with some shampoo. And the aircon starts to drip water on day 1 but no issue from day 2 onwards.||||Room come with aircon, fans, TV, lights and even a table light, considered really nice for a budget hotel. I paid RM70 per night but according the business owner, price may increase during peak period.||||Beside the toilet issue, the other problem is same as most budget hotel, really bad sound proof, you can hear every stomp and laugher if the people staying next door or upstairs does not behave.||||Location is quite good, take bus 103 and you can reach Gurney plaza in 15mins. There is a a few hawker center nearby, and some nicer restaurant if you like to spend money for nicer atmosphere.||||Breakfast is included but as it's the same everyday (fried vegatarian bee hoon, kaya toast and some jelly or fruits), so i guess you can give a try and eat something else when you feel like it.||||Mr. Koh the owner and the sister are super helpful We reach around evening and he drop by to pass us the keys and to show us around the house and provide plenty of recomendations.||||Overall i would say it's totally worth the price and it's a not bad experince aside from some of the...
