Haven't eaten durian in years (don't ask why) and finally the itch to indulge in some struck today!

We decided to hunt for some durian as dessert after lunch and settled for Teik Zai whose stall is just outside New World Park's Burma Road entrance.

Since there were only two of us and we were already half full from lunch, we told the proprietor that we wanted smaller fruits. We opted for Raub Musang King and Red Prawn from Balik Pulau.

Suffice to say the goods delivered! The durian tasted so good, I completely forgot to let my phone camera eat before I did.

Like how most durian stalls are set up these days, Teik Zai comes equipped with tables and chairs, plastic gloves and complementary bottled water. It is truly a comfortable and shaded environment to enjoy durian.

We like that the proprietor seems like a nice guy; speaks little and no sweet-talking. There is an honest vibe about him. The pricing was decent. We also asked for some mangosteen. Upon payment, we realized that it was on the house. That was a surprisingly lovely gesture.

During our chat, we discovered that he operates completely independently from his father, Teik, who operates along Macalister Road. Both businesses are not affiliated with one another.

If you are looking to indulge in some good quality durian at reasonable prices, we highly...

Very expensive. In tourist area. My bad.

I bought Musang King and Tupai King from them.

First of all, their Musang King was quite tasty. Said to be from 40 years old durian tree. RM 90/kg. I still felt that it was moderately “worth” the money, though expensive.

However, I dont feel like what I bought from them was Tupai King. RM 180/kg by the way!! It tasted quite bland (無味). I let my friends tried it, and they also said it was bland.

I wouldnt be that pissed if their Tupai King were delicious. Then, after a few days, I bought a cheap Tupai King (90/kg) in Bayan Lepas. It was cheap because the shape was a bit malformed. But it was tasty.

So, we never know what...

Recommend? Yes.

I love durian, but I don’t know much about them. My experience is with durians available in Viet Nam and I’m not informed of which types of durians are which. I’ve never bought one myself so I honestly don’t know.

I came here twice during my visit to Penang. The first time I asked for something sweet with small seeds. They said they served me musang king. It was delicious sweet and creamy with small seed like I asked for.

The second time I came I had little cash so I asked for something that would fit my budget. They said they served me black thorn. It was sweet but the seeds are large.

From this trip I learned that I really love...
