Came here with friends during lunch for Omakase without reservation. The staff was graciously welcoming us in. Luckily it wasn't fully occupied, hence we were given the bar seat. Since it was my first Omakase experience, hence I have no comparison to draw with unlike my other 2 friends. They were certainly impressed and wowed away by the food prepared by the chef. As for me, as I was recovering from COVID and in midst of regaining my sense of smell and taste, I guess I do enjoy some of the stronger tasting dishes, and especially the texture of the food. I liked the attention paid to the details on the combination of the food, the sequences of having them in order to fully savour the textures and flavours of each ingredients the chef has prepared. Even their cutleries are fascinating and cute. Again, I would say I'm giving 4 🌟 even though I couldn't taste all food but because of the atmosphere, customer service, food presentation and the chef's skills while preparing our Omakase. I underestimated their food portion, thinking I would still be hungry after the course meal, which was NOT true. We were full and satiated(so much for our back-up plan to head to Edo-Ichi/Daorae across the street thereafter). Well worth the meal indeed. Will definitely return again to fully enjoy the taste the next time I get my taste and smell back. Side note: Better to make reservations for bar counter to watch all the action. Their selection of sake is delightful, also they allow you to choose a sake cup...

We had the absolute pleasure of dining at this charming Japanese restaurant, and I must say, it exceeded all expectations. Every dish was a masterpiece — beautifully presented, exquisitely balanced, and bursting with authentic flavour. From the first bite to the last, it was clear that great care and craftsmanship had gone into every element of the meal.
What truly set this place apart, however, was the warm and thoughtful hospitality. The owner personally visited each table, offering detailed explanations of the dishes and checking in to ensure everything suited our taste. It was a lovely touch that made us feel genuinely welcomed and cared for.
The restaurant is also wonderfully family-friendly. Our children were not only accommodated but made to feel right at home — a rare and much-appreciated quality in fine dining establishments.
We left with full hearts and satisfied appetites, already planning our next visit. This gem of a restaurant comes highly recommended — a must-try for anyone who appreciates exceptional Japanese cuisine and heartfelt service. We will most certainly...
Read moreI had the chance to try Kazumasa and was not disappointed. After trying 8 local sushi places since arriving in Penang. Most were highly recommended but only one was passable. As an avid lover of good food I had a lovely experience with the Kazumasa Set Lunch a good value at $55RM and an attentive service team. The lunch set gave me a quick understanding of their approach to food preparation and service. After struggling to recover from the effects of Covid 19, they in my opinion got it right today. Service was attentive and informative and the food was prepared with care. As I watched the chef grate the fresh wasabi at the Omakase station my excitement grew. Food preparation in the kitchen and at the sushi station were closely synchronized and hot items were still piping hot when they arrived at the table and sushi and sashimi was what I hoped for, fresh, clean and tasty. If you have time and feel nostalgic for a taste of Japan, Kazumasa provides that. Whatever challenges they faced are meticulously overcome through care, attention and craftsmanship. Planning my next visit and will try the Chef's...
