Finally, I tracked him down to his new place at Ivory Tower at Jalan Kampung Jawa Baru. He brands himself the left handed Char Koay Teow and has been missing from Lebuh Keng Kwee scene for a while.
For me his Char Koay Teow is very good even though he does not use lard in his frying. His end product has the aroma of ' Wok Hei' which is what a good Char Koay Teow is all about. The fragrance from the wok in his preparation.
Relocating to his new place has lost him many of his fans as they do not know where he has moved to. Hopefully, this post will enlighten his faithfuls who have missed his hawker fare. For Rm 6.50 you get a decent portion with two big prawns and cockles. For my taste, it could have been even better with more chillies.
The unassuming Uncle Chan as he is known, also serves Assam Laksa, Ice Kacang and Cendol. So, if you miss his Char Koay Teow, you now know where he can continue to cook up a storm for you for his delicacy....
Read moreI would never give a bad review but am doing so because the man who takes orders took our money and we felt there was some racism here.
I came with my Sabahan friend and we ordered. After 20 mins, still no food. We asked, he said 1 minute. A group of Chinese tourists sat and were served within a minute or 2, but not my friend or the Indian-Malay table next to us. It is worth noting the man himself is Chinese. My friend asked again. The table next to us asked again. Another 10 minutes and still nothing. The table next to us cancelled their order as they had not paid. My friend asked for money back and the man refused. We waited another 5 minutes, then left. Race is a touchy subject here so it feels weird writing this but it isn’t right that he distinguished between races. We watched as he pretty much exclusively served Chinese tourists and ignored others.
Please avoid. He took our money and we weren’t given any food. Not...

The food was good. We got Char kuey teow, laksa and the curry mee adding on two longan juice. The juice is tasty and refreshing with plenty of ingredients like jelly and fruit.
Char kuey teow, full of charcoal aroma and the legendary wok hei. Uncle literally play with fire with frying the noodles (there's even photo of him playing fire pasted on the wall). Good taste, smell good and the prawns taste good.
Laksa, super flavourful with the har go and it's not extremely spicy, good for people like me. Portion is slightly smaller but good nevertheless.
Curry mee, taste good. Slightly spicy than preferred but it's curry mee so expected. Plenty of ingredients.
Really worth the visit. Best char kuey teow in Penang...
