Zalqa Penang - Arabic Restaurant — Restaurant in George Town

I went with my family of 6, we went for dinner at first we thought we couldn’t be seated because we have to make a reservation for a big family but since we didn’t we asked for the staffs if there was any way we can be seated and they found a perfect place for us. 5 stars for the friendly staff and their service. For the food we ordered a variety from the rice options and also from the breads and sides. A plate of rice and it’s portion is perfect for 2 people, whereby the huge bread which they said was their customer favorite was huge and was perfect for my family of 6. The sizzling lamb was also delicious had the Arab kick to it, but isn’t my favorite. The rice set which I ordered is chicken Zhurbian and Mindi chicken were good. Loved the aromatic flavors of the rice. The chicken was a little dry but no big deal. All the drinks were good, the shakes were also great. The dessert options weren’t many but the cream caramel dessert I ordered was quite mid and isn’t my favorite dessert out of all of them probably. This was my first time trying Zalqa, and unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. We ordered the mixed appetizer and the Kebab Kash Kash. While the Kebab Kash Kash was decent, we had to wait quite a while for it to arrive. However, the real issue was with the mixed appetizer.

We waited nearly 40 minutes for it, and to our surprise, when the dish was finally ready, it was served to a group of influencers sitting behind us who were taking photos for a food review. At first, I thought the dish might have been theirs, but after they spent nearly five minutes taking numerous pictures, the waiter brought the same dish back to our table and served it to us.

We were shocked to learn that the dish was actually ours. Firstly, the staff didn’t ask for our permission to use the food we paid for to take pictures. Secondly, it was frustrating to wait so long only to have our food used for someone else's photos. Why should we wait for others to take pictures for the food we paid for? We came extremely hungry. This was extremely unprofessional and disrespectful.

Last night, my team had the pleasure of dining at this fantastic Arabic restaurant, and I must say, it exceeded all my expectations. The food was absolutely delicious, with every dish bursting with flavor. The lamb, in particular, was incredibly tender and moist – not dry at all, which can sometimes be a challenge with lamb dishes. Every bite was perfectly seasoned, leaving me wanting more.

The restaurant itself is stunning, spacious, and comfortable, offering a warm and welcoming ambiance. We booked a private hall for over 100 people, and it was perfect. The staff were not only professional but also incredibly friendly and accommodating. Our food was served right on time, exactly as requested, and the service was impressively fast.

The facilities were top-notch, with a sound system and microphone available for use, which made the event even more enjoyable. A special shoutout to Rubel, who made the entire booking process a breeze. He was incredibly helpful and went above and beyond to accommodate our requests.
