This food court opens till late night, and has been sitting in my "To visit" bookmarks group for ages, and I finally paid a visit.
The atmosphere is spot on, and the food selections are expensive, you have most of the Penang signature dishes such as hokkien mee, curry Mee, char Kuey Teow, char hot fun etc. and the drinks are reasonably priced.
During the visit, I sampled two dishes: The signature, Michelin Bob Gourmet listed hokkien Mee, cost RM8 for a small portion without any additional ingredients, the taste is ok but also lackluster, and certainly do not justify the premium in the price.
The curry mee, cost RM7 for a small portion, offers reasonable value. The amount of coconut cream added to the soup given it a rich flavour and viscous texture and that separate it from many other curry mee I taste.
Personally this is not somewhere I'd bother coming again, though if I happen to be in the vicinity and hungry in late night, it still is a solid choice for grabbing...
Read moreThose said the bak kut teh is nice haven’t tried the real bak kut teh yet… it is not nice and pricy somemore.. for medium size cost RM52 that is expensive.. at KL i think the most cost for 2 person bak kut teh only RM40++ and I told the boss I dont want vege but he still gave me without my acknowledgment after i told him I didn’t want the vege only he take it back and refunded me RM6.. I feel like this is tourist trap. The oyster omelette overpriced which cost RM16 for small portion. The boss gave tourist price how I know? Bcoz on the pricing chart listed RM8 for small when asked why charge us RM16 the boss point another price chart which I feel not relevant. The hokkien mee got michelin star also not nice at all. Honestly speaking I been here 2 years ago which I think the food is still good and on par but I came back after 2 years its really disappoint me. I will nvr come back unless they change their mindset and cooking skill. Don’t charge tourist overpriced...
Read moreBe careful when buying BENG KEE BAK KUT TEH here, especially if you're not Malaysian. The seller doesn't want to give you a price, and suddenly the price they charge is very high. Fortunately, I managed to see the price for a medium portion of bakut teh, which was around 40 ringgit. When we complained that we wanted the medium portion, they said it was sold out. Does it make sense that they have large portions but medium portions are sold out?
I have just read there have been many complaints about this bakut teh place. That’s why they changed the restaurant's name on Google Reviews (Before BENG KEE BAK KUT TEH). Beware, this place is a TOURIST TRAP! Be really, really careful.
The sellers seems to be husband and wife team. The husband cooks, and the wife offers the food. Be careful with the wife's friendliness as she tries to trap you. Their business practices are deceitful...
