I recently discovered a Chinese restaurant that serves handcrafted dim sum every morning from 8:30 am to 2 pm, and I was intrigued to try it after hearing that their head dim sum chef comes from one of the renowned dim sum spots in Ipoh.
The moment I walked in, I was greeted by an old-style Chinese air-conditioned restaurant, giving off a traditional vibe. The restaurant is primarily staffed by experienced servers who made me feel right at home.
The dim sum menu is fairly limited, but it covers all the essential, classic dim sum choices. The presentation of the dishes was not particularly eye-catching, but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and freshness of the food. Each dish had a traditional taste and texture that reflected an authentic recipe, which is becoming rare these days.
My absolute favorite was the BBQ pork pastry puff, which had a magical touch. While I found the filling a bit on the savory side for my taste, the pastry skin was flawless—thin, light, and crunchy, delivering that nostalgic flavor that took me back to my childhood.
The glutinous rice was another standout. At first glance, I wasn’t expecting much, but once I took a bite, I was hooked. Every element of the dish was fresh, perfectly textured, and the fragrance of the glutinous rice was executed perfectly—an impressive feat, especially for someone who’s not typically a fan of glutinous rice.
The fish balls initially appeared a bit dull to me, but their bouncy texture and flavor instantly reminded me of the famous dim sum fish balls from Ipoh. A delightful surprise!
The rest of the dim sum dishes were well-executed as well, though I found the orange fish roll to have a slightly off-putting scent.
The tea served alongside the dim sum was excellent, with the right water temperature, enhancing the overall dining experience.
Service was exceptional, with both the experienced local captains and the friendly foreign staff making the experience enjoyable. All in all, this place is a great find for anyone who appreciates traditional dim sum done right.
Second Visit - Still Impressive! (One month after first visit)
This is our second visit to the restaurant, and once again, it did not disappoint. We ordered almost the same dim sum selection as our first visit, and we're happy to say the taste is still up to standard and met our expectations. Notably, the orange fish roe was fresher and more enjoyable this time around—definitely a pleasant improvement!
We also tried two new dim sum items during this visit: the deep-fried yam paste with minced meat filling and the steamed prawn dumpling with green chives.
The yam paste dim sum was phenomenal. The outer layer was thin, perfectly fried to a light crisp—crunchy without being oily. It paired beautifully with the traditional-flavored minced pork inside. Absolutely delicious!
The prawn dumplings were another highlight. The skin was incredibly thin and smooth, and the filling was fresh and flavorful. A great addition to our dim sum picks.
Overall, we're very happy with this second visit and look forward to...
Read moreOn the first day of CNY 2022, booked 2 tables of MYR888 set for family members. I have booked advanced to ensure we have a place to dine in and i was told to select two time slot. Either 6pm or 8pm. Booked the 8pm slot since 6pm is rather too early for our usual dinner.
This is a Chinese style restaurant. I went for the very first time yesterday and we got ourselves our own vip room. I can see that the restaurant itself is big enough for wedding function. Food was definitely great in my opinion. Our group ordered the course meal and every one of the dish was absolutely delicious and the portion is quite big too. Example, for the shark fin soup, everyone basically had two small bowls of it. The fish served was kinda big too and same goes for the prawn, most of us had 2 prawns.
Now about the food, the shark fin soup (fake i guess) had a lot of ingredients inside so you not only get the soup but lots of stuff inside. The fish was kinda special as they cook it with laksa style soup and they even add in the laksa soup noodle, very nice imho. And the prawn was fried with nestum and this is another tried and tested awesome dish if done right.
Parking space is limited so if you go during peak time then high chance you may need to park at roadside outside the restaurant and pray you won't get a ticket. Overall very nice and clean and great ambience too.
P/s: our room have karaoke system so that is another plus for those who love...
