One of the best premier Japanese restaurants in Penang, if not Malaysia. Chef Miyasaka, the head chef and owner, is still cooking and preparing the food personally even after all this time. Been here so often I've stopped counting and each picture is an example of just how much (amazing) food is served up here, I work nearby and this place is my go-to place to satisfy my Japanese food cravings.
Food: 5/5 The set lunch/bento and donburi takeaway menu for lunch is the best bang for buck deal in the city. You're getting authentic Japanese food, with amazing sweet and savoury flavours at a wonderful price. Portions are massive and delicious. The side dishes served with the lunch sets are diverse and always delicious. My favourite side dish has to be the stewed eggplant in ginger sauce. I highly recommend the simmered cutlets (katsuni/katsudon) to everyone. Tea is refillable and free with lunch, but there is no dessert.
Service: 4/5 A little bit slow sometimes, a pity that they seem to have a lack of staff. The ones that are around are very helpful and friendly, and they're passionate about their work. You can sometimes see them dashing around frantically if the place is busy. Reservations are recommended, but you can try your luck if you're lazy to make a phone call. It gets extremely busy and packed sometimes.
Atmosphere: 5/5 Aircon inside is cold and it's a welcome relief. Lighting is bright and the place isn't too noisy unless it's really packed with people. Overall, authentic Japanese atmosphere and seating. Love it.
Highly recommend this place for anyone who likes authentic Japanese food. No BS, no overcharging, no fancy trends that dilute the...
Read moreThe menu in this place is REAL authentic Japanese. So many items sold here can’t be found in other (fake) Japanese restaurants in Penang, chef is also Japanese and there was plenty of Japanese patrons in the restaurant too, if that isn’t a good sign that the chef knows what he’s doing then I don’t know what else will be. The sashimi was extremely fresh and delicious and so was the unagi, both are very carefully prepared and are probably the best in Penang, as a Penangite and I have tried most of the Japanese restaurants in Penang, this place definitely tops my list and I absolutely regret not visiting this...
