We stayed in an Executive Club Room. The hotel is nice, clean and comfortable. The club access was cool, nice view with canapés and a small selection of beverages (Champagne, Wine and basic cocktails to mix yourself). Overall worth the experience.

I give it only 3 stars as we didn’t have the best experience service wise. I URGE you, do not book the “Deluxe Limousine” service with the hotel, it is a scam. It cost 125 MYR. Being labeled a deluxe limousine you would think they would at least pick you up in a nice car and for that price as well. Instead we got picked up in a TOYOTA CAMRY! What a joke!

We could have gotten a grab for 25 MYR or a taxi for 50-60 MYR. We brought up this issue to the manager and they could careless. Instead they reiterated that the type of car was stated when I booked it (Which is not true), it only says “Deluxe Limousine” and in my confirmation email it then proceeds to only say the word “Camry”. They slip that word into all of the text to dupe you. Book your own travel.

There were some other miscues as well that we could not ignore.

It was my wife’s birthday so they were nice enough to put roses on the bed and offer a complimentary cake WHICH we never received. They tried to deliver it and we were not in the room so they left a note for us to call down when we’re back. We call down and they said they would send it up but never did.

We asked for water in our room and they said they would send it up, 45 min later still nothing and I had to call the desk again.

When we first arrived we went straight up to the pool. Which is beautiful. No greeting from any staff of any kind. As I walked up to the bar a staff member proceeded to say “The bar is not ready” and just walked away. Did not tell us when it would be, did not tell us how we can get a drink otherwise, he basically dismissed us. I wouldn’t have an issue with this if I didn’t see him serving Chinese and European guests so promptly. But clearly he judged us and paid us no mind even though we had club status. Even when the bar opened he didn’t come to ask us if we wanted anything. It was only later in the night when he saw us leave the executive lounge that he even gave us any service.

All of these issues turned into a bad experience. I won’t be coming back to the Kelwai location again but I would give the Gurney location a shot as it is a...

We are frequent traveller to Penang and have stayed at many hotels such as Eastern Oriental Hotel & Angsana Teluk Bahang (PS: please do not stay at Angsana, it’s really overrated for its price, with many things required to be repaired during our stay).

We think G Hotel is the best hotel in Penang.

  1. The lady at the receptionist was very friendly & welcoming even if I wasn’t really smiling due to 6 hours of drive during CNY (I’m sorry cause I was really tired). I could felt that she was doing a good job. They also served you very delicious ice cream upon checking in. I love their yam ice cream very much, please continue serving that.

  2. the hotel cleanliness was great. I’m very picky when it comes to hotel cleanliness & I know many hotel do not change their bed sheet (I can feel it just by touching it) but G hotel bed sheet was so so so clean and the bed was comfortable, we had a good sleep.

  3. their staff actually came and knocked the door asked if we needed anything extra like water bottle or towel, which was something extraordinary compared with other hotels.

  4. we accidentally left our iPad there and after check out, we received a call from the hotel about our iPad. The manager (I believed) helped to arrange for the iPad to be passed to another manager on duty so that we can collect during midnight after all our CNY house visiting. Thank you for G hotel team for being kind & honest, keeping our iPad safe.

  5. the only thing they might need to improve is their breakfast. I understand it’s very cheap as it’s only RM30 per person and I can’t blame them for the price of RM30. However, it’s a 5 stars hotel (if not mistaken), they should up the game of breakfast (by offering better 5 stars hotel standard breakfast at an increased price). Nevertheless, I have to say the receptionist at breakfast was also nice & welcoming. She also thanked us for coming once we finished our breakfast & were walking out. Staffs at this hotel are well trained and know what they were doing.

Will definitely...

December2024 -Room type : Executive Premier Suite

overall, it was a pleasant experience but with area for improvements .

Positive Notes :- The king-sized bed was comfortable, ensuring restful nights. Lovely Bathroom: The standalone bathtub had strong water pressure Thoughtful Amenities: Free minibar (very simple snacks & drinks provided), complimentary parking, and a spacious room designed with a modern aesthetic all added to the comfort of the stay.

Areas for Improvement :- Front Desk Communication: The front desk staff appeared undertrained and provided unclear instructions regarding lounge access. I was told I could claim my complimentary cocktails at "2pm lounge," which led me to believe this was available only from 2 PM onward. It was only the following day that I realized "2PM" was the lounge's name, not the timing. When I eventually located the lounge on the ground floor, there were no staff members present to assist, and the front desk staff who directed me there did not follow up. This lack of guidance and service was disappointing, and I ended up leaving without redeeming the benefit.

Steam Room: Although I was informed that the gym had a steam room, it seems not functioning. The temperature was stuck at 23°C, and the power switch was locked & inside the steam room is dry. There was no note or indication that assistance was required to activate it, and no staff were present at the fitness center. Management may give clearer instructions or signage for guests.

Service Response: When I requested six extra bottles of water from the front desk, the response was delayed, and I had to follow up with a second call. The staff’s response was unfriendly, informing me that only four bottles could be provided at a time. A more accommodating tone and proactive service would improve the guest experience.

Conclusion:- While the suite itself and the amenities were good, the service quality, especially at the front desk and lounge, steam room, left room for...

I am currently staying at G Hotel Kelawai in Penang and am extremely disappointed by the conduct of one staff member during the evening cocktail service on 8th May 2025. For a hotel that claims 5-star standards, what I experienced was simply unacceptable. I want to state clearly that I don’t usually write reviews, but I feel compelled to speak up because this goes beyond poor service, this is about principle, hygiene, and the ongoing issue of subtle racism in Malaysia, which should never be tolerated, especially in hospitality. I observed this staff member engaging in unhygienic and unprofessional behavior, including smelling the teapot behind the counter before serving, and touching his face and nose before handling cutlery. This is deeply concerning for a food and beverage setting. What stood out even more was his clear bias in how he treated different guests. He was polite, sincere, and smiling when serving Caucasian customers. However, his attitude towards Chinese guests, especially women like myself, was dismissive and indifferent. When I politely asked him for assistance, he responded without a smile, with a "can’t be bothered" attitude. At one point, he even spoke across the sofa to me instead of approaching, which felt incredibly disrespectful. This kind of selective treatment and unprofessional conduct has no place in a 5-star hotel like G Hotel Kelawai. I sincerely hope hotel management takes this feedback seriously. All guests regardless of race or background deserve to be treated with equal respect, dignity, and care. A photo of the staff member is attached for reference.

I had a wonderful stay and experience at this hotel. Because Penang is not a big city and the traffic here is manageable, it takes roughly between 10-20 min to get around George Town by Grab, so staying in a hotel a bit further away from the center is not a bad idea. The staff here is friendly and helpful particularly Saravanan (hope I got his name right). This man was extremely helpful to explain their service, facility and even helped us with some suggestions of places to visit and find information about certain places we wanted to go to. I understand this a five star hotel but wasn't quite expecting the typical kind of service you normally experience from an international five star chain to be offered in this hotel. Very impressed! We booked the deluxe room which was nice, clean and quite spacious. However, we decided to take advantage of the special promotion to upgrade to an executive room at RM100 per night. This gave us not only a bigger room but also access to the lounge with free drinks and cocktails after 6pm. The room price in general is quite affordable so I thought it was a great deal. This hotel is situated between two shopping malls including the Gurney Plaza, arguably the best mall in town, and also about a 5 minute walk to one of the more popular hawker center. If you are planning to visit places further away from the town such as Penang Hill, Batu Ferringhi and Teluk Bahang then this area is great because you are basically situated in the northern center of this island; roughly equal distance to the furthest west and also to the touristy center of George Town.
