I must admit that this is a rather unfamiliar entry into the list of famous nasi kandar in Penang. The reviews however indicate that this place might just be one of the top contenders for the dish. Seeing the only way to confirm that is to taste the food myself, I decided to drop by. It was the Ramadan fasting month, therefore there was no queue at all. I got a plate of white rice (opting out of briyani) with their ayam goreng, daging and kobis. The second plate was served with the ayam ros as per my request. In addition, I also got a serving of kurma kambing for good measures. The kuah campur came with a healthy punch of aromatics with a good blend of savory and sweetness. I however feel that the appetising tang in a good well rounded kuah campur is somehow missing. The kuah campur were also lighter in texture. A nasi kandar cannot go wrong with ayam goreng and this is typically the yardstick to determine how good the nasi kandar place is. With that in mind, I am pleased to say that the ayam goreng here was beautifully flavored with a nice crisp. The ayam rose on the other hand tasted average in my opinion. The daging kicap was commendable. The meat was tender as how I have ordered and the delivery of flavors were good. Moving on to the kambing kurma, the kuah was rich but sadly the flavors were not expanded into the flesh, leaving a underwhelming taste. Unfortunately the meat was also not as tender as I had hoped for. One point which they can also improve upon is the sweetness of their teh ais. I ordered mine kurang manis and yet, it was ridiculously sweet. Overall I will rate this as a solid average...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe one and only RACIST nasi kandar restaurant. Due to noone layan, so i self layan ambik nasi je la. what's wrong with self service if no one serves. I need to rush to work though. Here's the thing. I was tell off in a rude way "mari mari saya ambik, ini muslim punya (nasi i guess), lu punya tangan bukan muslim punya tangan, apasal sentuh?" Ofcourse i told him, "takde orang layan, saya ambil sendiri la" . "Tak boleh, ini muslim punya (pointing and showing around his restaurant). lu mau saya ambik" I was still calm and waiting for him to pass me my rice thinking just give me my damn rice. Due to the portion of rice, i wanted to reduce also have problem. Dey, since you are so frustrated, i can just shake and pour some rice back to the container. itu pun tak boleh! Terus I kena maki again becoz im not a muslim. Plus, shoo me away with his hand gesture. Fine! that's it! Come on la, orang yg intro i ke restaurant u pun bukan org muslim la. sudah banyak pun wang yg u terima pun telah disentuh non muslim AND TELAH masuk ke dalam cashier u la. What's with the mentality of Muslim or Non Muslim?!?!? p/s: Yusuf Restaurant, Kindly stick a memo or a BIG SIGNBOARD "Non Muslim are...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe place is recently upgraded, you can expect high end nasi kandar/mamak place, air conditioned.
Food is tasty, highly suggested to try their nasi briyani, price wise not really cheap but reasonable, they use quarter chicken. wide variety of lauk: spread from chicken, beef, mutton, duck, turkey (ayam piru), pearl chicken (ayam mutiara).
had nasi briyani with duck for rm35, the duck is large, the gravy is spicy, you can opt for kuah campur (packful with spices and slightly sweet just good enough to pair with their nasi putih and briyani)
major drawback is parking, the parking spot is limited and the road is narrow. but if u lucky enough u can get your parking. the queuing time is fast, dont even bother to worry whether you can get your seats or no, the staff will usher and even ask customers that already finish their plate to give way to other people (politely), they are 2 story premise, so even u see a humongous line, you will...
