Place: situated on the 1st floor just above shi-fu kopitiam, fully air-conditioned restaurant with ample comfy seats and even an area for a dedicated room private-type event that specialises in western steak cuisines (wagyu, black Angus, Japanese A5 wagyu and Korean beef). I'd say this place has served one of the BEST STEAK I've tried in JB.
Service: the waiter who served me upon stepping in was really polite and spoke in very understandable English. He was slow in pronunciation of each word (seems like from the Fillipines as from the accent).
Food: Fried calamari (RM74): wow...the Char on the calamari and blend of cheesy, spice on the sauce covering the plate base with the lemon squeeze made it for 1 of the better grilled calamari I've tasted. But for this price, makes it kinda still on the higher end of pricing. What is didn't like was that we had to cut the calamari ourselves. A good chef would prepare EVERYTHING for the customers and we'd only need to enjoy the food. Verdict: 4.6/5.
Burnt Caesar (salad): the burnt vegetables were nice and refreshing with a generous sprinkle of cheese. Again the flavours were bold and robust, but the same problem with this dish was similar to the calamari in that the vegetables were NOT CUT and was wholly burnt on the grill which made extra work for me to cut it. Verdict: 4.3/5.
Beef bacon carbonara: the first thing to hit my palate was the softness of the pasta, the crunchy bits of the fried bacon and the creamy flavour of the carbonara. Excellent flavour profiles here, but nothing too special of outstanding to warrant a price like this in my opinion. Verdict: 4/5
Australian black Angus steak: Now, for the highlight of the meal and their specialty. Well, visually, it's a stunning wooden plate of food. Immediately, it captivated my attention and taste buds even before I tasted it. The smell was heavenly and it was a nice medium done (as how I ordered it). Upon cutting into the meat, it was moist, soft and when it touched my palate, immediately a burst of flavour invaded my mind and the taste of beef was the star of this dish. The slight crunchy outward char on the beef surface coupled with the softness of the medium cooked meat int he centre, the perfectly seasoned meat, was more than words could describe in this short space here. You've got to try this to experience it's splendor in full. The recommended sauce of Ponzu on the side was spot on and created an excellent balance of beefy-ness, fruity zest and sour tinge which was exactly what this dish needed to avoid it being too overpowering. It brought all the compartments on the plate into harmony. For those with a slight heavier taste bud, a pile of salt at the side is meant to further enhance the beef flavour when mixed steak + salt + Ponzu!! The grilled cherry tomatoes on the side was an ingenious add-on to this dish. Try it if you dare!! Didn't care too much for the grilled garlic cove on the side. A slight green to the dish would be even better but at the same time challenge to add-on to an already near perfect dish....
Read moreThis is my worst dining experince ever. My party and I visit the restaurant for lunch and ordered 48hours Mushroom Soup, Burnt Ceaser Salad and Korea Hanwoo Beef. While the social media boasted an array of tempting dishes, It's disappointing when social media hype doesn't align with the actual dining experience. The disparity between perceptions shaping by media influencer and the true taste of the food is very disheartening. Not only the food is unsatisfying but the service is also very lacking. Upon ordering, my party and I found the food is not as good as expected, but a bigger disappointment struck when we requested a refill of our dipping sauce. To our surprise, we were informed that an additional charge would apply for the replenishment. This unexpected policy not only left a bitter taste in our mouths but also soured the entire dining experience. It's disheartening when a restaurant prioritizes extra charges over customer satisfaction. The notion that something as basic as a dipping sauce comes at an added cost diminishes the overall value for the already expensive meal. While I understand that upscale restaurants may have premium offerings, charging extra for a simple condiment refill feels unjust and leaves patrons feeling nickel-and-dimed. A truly pleasurable dining experience should encompass not only the quality of the food but also the service and the establishment's willingness to accommodate reasonable requests without excessive charges. After we are done with our meal, we call for our bill. Upon receiving the initial bill, my party and I were taken aback when the server was abruptly called back to the counter. This left us puzzled and unattended at our table. To our surprise, the server returned, acknowledging a mistake in the first bill and presenting us with a higher-priced one. Confusion ensued as my partner questioned the discrepancy, specifically in relation to the weight of the Korea Hanwoo Beef ordered. Despite our insistence that we had ordered 230g of beef, the server insisted the correct amount was 280g, resulting in the increased bill. Seeking clarification, we approached the cashier, who, after a few rounds of checking, surprisingly affirmed that the initial bill was indeed correct. Regrettably, no explanation was offered for the confusion caused by the contradictory statements from the server and the subsequent billing correction. Such lapses in service, coupled with a lack of transparency and communication, created an unpleasant experience. In a dining setting, patrons should feel confident in the accuracy of their bill and expect a swift and apologetic resolution to any discrepancies. This will definitely be the first and last time of my visit to...
Read moreThe whole service experience from booking until the end of service was superb. I booked online, this being our first time there. It was quick and easy. Ben, who adjusted in the booking process, even provided me the menu so as to allow me to pre-order or prepare me for the experience. He then followed up with reminders right up to the point of our arrival. Nizam took over the service in the restaurant, which is very pleasantly designed, with its open kitchen and open fire pit area, introducing us to all that was on offer on that day. He was attentive and very helpful in helping us choose our courses while recommending and explaining what was on offer. We were there to celebrate my wife's birthday, and they even made it more memorable by providing a Semi Freddo for free as a birthday cake, helping to take pictures for us and our group as momentos of the day's celebration. The food was really superb! Charred Squid: very nicely charred. Chewy, but not tough, was very fresh. Charred Smoky Mushroom: Again, very nice smokiness but still moist and tender. Truffle Fries: Truly infused with the flavour of truffles, accompanied by shavings of truffle. Best fries we've tasted in a long time. Fish & Sweet Potato Chips: The fish that was fried in the lightest, crispiest batter has a firm bite, unlike most fish and chips you get in most F&C places. The sweet potato goes were nice and crispy right to the last stick. Australian/F1 Wagyu Bone in Ribeye: This was what we came for in particular, the steak. Nizam recommended this cut of meat after asking what the general preference was for each of us in the group. It was done to medium rare. Very good steak! Well grilled. Good char on the outside, but succulent with a nice bite. Even the meat left on the bone was delicious... I'm a Chew the meat off the bone man, so I especially appreciate a well cooked meat on bone. Jack Daniel Whisky Tiramisu: Very light and fluffy and definitely not too sweet. It is very well balanced in taste and texture. Prune Sticky Toffee Pudding: This is something I can never resist. So I may be a little biased when I say it was delicious. Semi Freddo: This was gratis when Nizam found out we were celebrating my wife's birthday. Very good, like everything else. I'm surprised this establishment was not packing in the crowd while we were there. Perhaps it is a little further away from the city centre, making it less accessible if you don't drive. We did go a little overboard by local standards, I was told, but it was my wife birthday, and if it wasn't for the huge steak, the prices on the menu are definitely not...
