A new addition at Aeon tebrau and highly welcomed since there are no available alternatives to this at the mall. Like the overall vibes - Taiwan/Muji and the service is not bad. Could be 4 stars if not the sour tofu side dish (to clarify it does not smell spoilt but tasted sour) we tasted that threw us off. The leicha was good, the soup is easily acceptable since it was on the lighter side. However, I did wish that the shop can offer add-ons such as Hakka Yong Tao Foo to add some meat to the meal. The Bakkutteh I think caters well to Singaporeans who love the peppery type, very standard and can order. However, at the same I also feel that the dish does feel abit out of place since it is not a Hakka dish. Would like to suggest to the restaurant if they could offer other Hakka dishes (instead of the fusion dishes) like Salt-baked chicken, Preserved vege pork belly, fermented tofu fried pork... I felt that they are too generous with the rice, it is abit off proportion especially in the Don. To reduce wastage, perhaps there can be a free top-up for rice and they provide normal portions too. Sliced pork for the don was well-marinated but abit dry. Also wished there were more greens in the don. Tried iced Cham which was quite Gao (thick). Hope to visit again to try their yam abacus seeds and...
Read moreWas at Sutera Mall and came across 客人来, so I decided to give it a try since I love traditional Hakka food, especially abacus seeds. My husband ordered the pan-seared pork set while I went for the abacus seeds.
The abacus seeds were decent, but the yam flavor wasn’t as strong as I had hoped. It seemed like there was more tapioca flour than taro in the mix, so the taro taste was pretty much missing. That said, the texture was nice and had a good chew (Q texture). The tau kwa was a bit too salty for my liking, but the rest of the dish was great.
As for my husband’s set, the pan-seared pork had a slight porky taste. So if you're sensitive to that stronger pork flavor, you might not...
Read moreWas hoping to have a taste of hakka food. Usually not easy to find a good one around.
Abacus yam seeds was way too salty and chewy, very little yam fragrance so i think too much flour in it. It was the dry version so luckily the serving is small, easily tired of it's taste after eating a few of them.
Generally most of the food were too salty. The drunken chicken and pig stomach soup were the better ones.. but frankly speaking the rice wine in the chicken soup was not shiok enough 😅
Restaurant has limited seats. It has other food choice suitable for kids though. Servers and cashier were ok. Food served a little slow, overall waiting time was acceptable. Well, can try other...
