Its a small and humble restaurant. Very attractive looking, the unique front door is eyecatching and inviting. And you enter into a homely looking space, with antiques and other Peranakan style furniture and decor. The staff were all very friendly and kind, and the boss was very cheerful and smiley. Really makes you feel at home here. It's a small restaurant, so they just have a few tables. Food arrived very fast upon ordering. We ordered sambal sotong with petai, beef keluak, mutton curry and some stirfry vege. Everything was excellent. The beef and mutton were cooked to perfection, absolutely tender and moist. The cendol we had for dessert was also light and refreshing, not too sweet. They also give you a choice of turmeric rice or white rice. Turmeric rice was very fragrant and tasty, I absolutely recommend to try that! Lastly, they also have a freezer full of ready-meals to takeaway, if you love their popular menu items. I definitely got several boxes to reheat at home for another day. A very pleasant experience dining here indeed, we are definitely going to be...
Read moreVisited this Nyonya restaurant this afternoon for lunch. Not easy to find a restaurant that serves Nyonya food in Johor actually. We were there on a Wednesday afternoon and the restaurant was empty except for a table that left after we arrived. The location wasn’t the most convenient, guess that’s why. We were seated promptly by the friendly server and ordered some dishes. Some hits and misses in our opinion. The beef rendang was done well, and also the curry fish head. The fish head was fresh and took some time to prepare. The others were pretty average. The prawns weren’t in their best condition. My friend had the durian chendol and she commented that it was good. They served two different type of rice, the plain one and the turmeric rice. I chose the plain rice since I thought it will go better with the dishes.
The restaurant had some nice decoration. Some very nostalgic displays as well, like the old cupboards and the sewing machine.
Parking was ample outside the restaurant. Overall, a pleasant experience but the food can be better in...
Read moreThe Sambal Ladyfingers was a standout for me—the sambal was flavorful, with a nice balance of spice and tanginess that complemented the tender ladyfingers perfectly. It was a dish I’d happily order again. I bought their ready made sambal
The Egg Omelette was simple yet satisfying. It was well-cooked, fluffy, and had a comforting homely feel to it.
The Rendang Beef meat was tender and the rich, aromatic rendang sauce was packed with depth and spice. It’s clear that the dish had been slow-cooked to perfection, making it a must-try for anyone visiting the restaurant.
To end the meal, I tried the Chendol which was a delightful dessert. The combination of coconut milk, palm sugar, and pandan jelly was refreshing and not overly sweet. It was a perfect way to round off the meal.
Overall, my experience at the Nonya restaurant was...
