Medan Selera Tepian Tebrau is often packed at night, and this speaks to how good the food and atmosphere is. I have been here twice so far and both times I went home wholly satisfied and with tapau (take aways) after a splendid dinner.
Most of the stalls are packed even though the menus are varied, and as if mirroring this, Tepian Tebrau plays host to a variety of guests. The intense competition between the stalls fuels their passion to create amazing, even uniquely good food.
On both my visits, I enjoyed the hospitality of Al Mizan, which serves Satay, Fried Rice, Fried Noodles, and their specialty here, Seafood. The Nasi Goreng Kambing was especially good, and amazingly void of any smell of goat, making it a must have for mutton lovers.
Also, do sample their satay, which I found to be sweet yet intensely flavorful. The peanut sauce that they serve along with it provides the perfect accompaniment for their satay, sweet and flavorful, not delicate as often found at elsewhere.
I saved the best for last, the seafood. I am not really a seafood lover, but I found the seafood here to be a real delight. We tried Siakap Bakar and Udang masak Kam Heong. We rarely have these dishes and wanted to try something new, fortunately, we were rewarded handsomely. Though the siakap was grilled, the chef managed to maintain the juiciness of the fished. Crowned with a generous topping of sambal pais, every spoonful was a burst flavors and subtle textures. The first three bites all I could say was 'wow, wow, wow', as I grappled for words in my attempt to expressed the emotions that boiled up. The udang Kam Heong did not disappoint either and proudly showcased the same intensity of flavor as the other dishes. As with the siakap, the first bite was shocking, albeit in a positive, uplifting way. My spirits we definitely lifted with that dish, and for brief moments I was blissfully oblivious to everything else around me.
Though I have only tried one stall at Tepian Tebrau, I do recommend this place if you wish to experience lively food in a lively atmosphere. It'll make a great start to an evening where...
Read moreWent for Tip Top (can’t remember full name). (I think) owned and ran by a chinese family. The lady taking the order was very friendly, nice and gave suggestions on the food. Food arrived under 20 minutes. We ordered Salted Egg Shrimp, Pari Ikan Bakar, Pok Choy, and kerang rebus (but from another stall) Salted egg shrimp was very good, pari was fresh but it’s the covered in sambal+tomato type, i’m more of a bakar with santan type but it was still good. oooh and dont forget to try out their Ice Jelly. So freaking good. I’m not even a fan but husband wanted to try it and I feel like I want to try it again soon. Not too sweet and not sour, and...
