Paid this restaurant that specialized in san lou fried beehoon a visit on my recent trip to JB. Tried to dine here they last time but they were closed. Since we were nearby, decided to come by to try our luck. We reached around 2pm and there were only few tables.
Since it was our first time here. We sought the recommendation of the staff. Apart from their signature sanlou fried beehoon, we ordered their signature fried beancurd, prawn paste chicken, oyster omelette as well as the royal chives. Since there wasnt much customer, our food was ready pretty quickly.
Their signature beehoon was well seasoned but a little damp, could be more crispy and more wokhei. signature beancurd was pretty good as well, so was their prawn paste chicken. The omelette was average to be honest, no wow factor. Royal chives was tasty but slightly on the oily side.
Overall, the food was pretty good. Staff were friendly. I actually wouldn't mind coming back again...
Read moreWe are fans of JB San Lou Meehoon and we tried all places that are well known for this specialty - Ah Meng, Ah Kaw & San Lou Seafood. Finally we visited this place after discovering they are all related and their common dish is San Lou Meehoon! As we tried the dishes here we noticed the place is less busy compared to the other eateries probably due to their location which is far from the town centre. However the San Lou Meehoon is very well fried with the outside being slightly crispy while inside is moist. The taste is just the way we like it when we first tried it at Ah Meng! The prawn paste fried chicken is also delicious while the home made fried tauhu is fried on the outside while soft inside. The vegetables were average though. We will certainly be revisiting for the Meehoon and to try other dishes. Come early during dinner time as they close earlier probably...
Read moreCame at around 8 pm on a Saturday night, thought this joint’s location is a bit ulu so won’t be a long wait. Boy was I wrong! The place is absolutely busy and despite having a robot to help serve the order, there seems to be co-ordination issues and the feel is that they are severely under staffed
Food wise: we ordered the 3-storey bee hoon, otak, curry ribs, homemade bean curb and fried Lettuce (which was not our choice but no choice cos others that we wanted were sold out). Taste wise is so-so and we were a bit disappointed that the wok-hei was badly missing in the bee hoon
Lettuce was a bit raw and curry was salty. Saving grace was the bean curb.
Will we visit again? Only if we are in the area and if we see there are available tables for seating as...
