Top 3 best Bak Kut Tehs in Klang in our humble opinion
There are few dishes that evoke as much nostalgia and comfort as a well-executed bowl of Bak Kut Teh for us Hokkiens and their version with its signature thick broth is a true masterpiece of Malaysian culinary tradition. Brought my KL boyfriend to try it and eversince it has left an indelible mark on his palate. For KLites, manage expectations about soup portions, they serve the bowl versions, i.e. theres not much soup and when you ask for extra, they would probably just add a teacup of soup into the bowl. (Psst, the trick is to add rice, if you add rice theyre usually mote inclined to give you a little bit more soup)
The broth, the heart and soul of any Bak Kut Teh, was nothing short of spectacular. Rich, velvety, and deeply aromatic, it carried the weight of hours of meticulous simmering. The thickness of the broth was perfect—neither overly gelatinous nor too thin—striking a harmonious balance that clung lovingly to each spoonful. The depth of flavor was extraordinary, with the herbal notes of star anise, cinnamon, and dang gui (angelica root) shining through without overpowering the natural sweetness of the pork. It was a symphony of umami, warmth, and spice, each sip revealing new layers of complexity.
The meat was tender to the point of near-melt-in-your-mouth perfection, were a testament to the care taken in their preparation. We usually go for the pork trotters, soft bones, pork rib and pork intestine.
When in Rome do as the Romans do - bring your own tea leaves and you tiao to blend in with the real Klang people ;)
In conclusion, this Klang-style Bak Kut Teh with its thick, sumptuous broth is a triumph of flavor and tradition. It is a dish that demands to be savored slowly, appreciated for its craftsmanship, and celebrated for its ability to bring people together. If you have yet to experience this culinary gem, do yourself a favor and seek it out. It is, without a doubt, a bowl worth traveling...
Read moreKlang is the capital of bak kut teh and many of you (including yours truly) don't have any qualm of driving all the way down to the Royal Town of Selangor. It used to be the capital of Selangor before changed to Shah Alam.
Back in the olden days, all the people eat BKT to keep their body warm before going to work at the port. That's why you'd find BKT stall almost everywhere you go in this town. Despite the health concern, many people still eat BKT at least once a day.
You'd find Samy BKT in Pandamaran, and Ah Her in both Pandamaran & Jalan Meru. But Samy & Ah Her (they're both brothers just in case you do not know) have actually opened a restaurant together in Taman Berkeley. Located in a stretch of shoplot away from the busier section of this area, they have many loyal customers who would congregate for breakfast & lunch.
Offering traditional bowl type BKT, just order your preferred cut of pork - Tua kut, kha wan, ribs, intestines, small bones, trotter, etc..even chicken feet. Served with a plate of white rice and cili padi, I love to enjoy normally two (2) bowls of poems and then wash everything down with my own Chinese tea. The reason is because they are very stingy with the soup and normally don't allow refill. But I just love how thick and flavourful the broth is...
Most of the time I would enjoy my meal with my regular customers.

Read moreWent and try out this old BKT shop. It was located along an area with a lot of old shop. Parking quite easy although every street is almost full of cars. The shop is not pack when I reached at 12.30pm. A lady came take my order very quickly. Since I am alone, I order the small bone cut. It came in a small porcelain bowl. I did not notice they serve in any claypot. If you come in groups you need to order many small bowls of different cuts. The soup was murky but without the taste of herb. I found it to my liking. They serve minimum amount of soup and you need to ask for refill if it is not enough. The meat was marvelous. Just the right amount of tenderness and easy to rip it off the bone. This meal was very satisfying for me. I will come back to try their others cuts. It would be better if the rice is serve in bowl but I guess this is not KL/PJ and other Klang BKT that is patronise also serve on plate. Not sure but to me it taste plain in...
