China style mini bowl dishes.
Atmosphere: 4.5🌟
Service: 4🌟
Food: Golden Fried Rice 3.25🌟 Not very strongly flavoured but visually looks good with different colours from vegetables and eggs. The rice seems very well fried as they are totally not sticking to each other. It is somewhat kept warm and wrapped with a plastic cover. I saw the white rice is Rm 2 and this is priced at Rm 4 so I feel it's pretty decent.
Food: Shredded Cabbage 3.25🌟 So wrapped with plastic cover and somewhat kept warm. The taste is decent and slightly different from the usual sauces we use here. It has pork slices and is not spicy even though I saw some dry chilis but flavour itself is quite strong (and slight spiciness) if you take the sauce and eat it with the rice though. Priced at Rm 6.
Food: Chongqing Spicy Chicken 3.5🌟 Flavor is good and it has some nuts. Not too spicy and quite crunchy. However, this dish wasn't kept hot.
Food: Sour Pickles Fish 3.25🌟 It is kept hot with the fire (instead of steam like others) so do request the waiters to take it for you. The fish slices are tender (about 10 of them). The taste is slightly sour, some spiciness but it's not really my cup of tea. However, this dish was piping hot so this added some points. I reused the candle to hear up the spicy chicken, works great. Priced at Rm 12.
Drinks: Shaoye Ginseng Chrysanthemum 3.5🌟 Flavour not bad, has ginseng and chrysanthemum flavour. The drink came cool but not as cold as I wanted soI use the self service ice and it is still quite flavorful. Priced at Rm 5.
Drinks: Chinese Tea Free flow self service. There's ice in the bucket and cups underneath.
Soup: Soup of the Day 3.25🌟 Free flow self service. There's a bowl underneath and spoons on the side (or at the payment counter). Some sort of tomato soup, flavour is a bit different. Not sure if it's pork or something, there's some fishy/meaty smell to it. It is plain but somewhat flavourful.
Sauces/Condiments: 4🌟 There's also sauces, garlic, chilis, etc as well. Garlic is so nice, fresh and...
Read moreShifu Mini Bowl offers a convenient and budget-friendly "mini bowl" concept, akin to a customizable mixed rice experience. It’s perfect for solo diners or those craving variety without large portions. The extensive menu features diverse Chinese dishes, often with Sichuan and Cantonese influences, and often includes tempting daily specials, sometimes for as little as RM1.
However, the "mini" in the name is no joke: portions are small. You'll likely need 3-4 dishes to feel full. While some dishes are excellent, consistency can be an issue, with quality varying. Prepare for long queues, especially during peak hours, which can be a real time-sink. Despite the appeal of free seaweed soup and sauces, the overall experience can feel somewhat impersonal. Hence, try to avoid...
Read moreTried this restaurant recently and was quite disappointed. Most dishes tasted like fast food quality. The hand-torn cabbage was passable, and the cordyceps chicken soup was mild but decently seasoned. However, the brown sugar glutinous rice cake lacked flavor and crispiness, the fried rice was overly salty with more carrots than rice, and the spicy chicken had no mala aroma and was tough. The worst was the sour spicy fish—bland, overly sour, and lacked any real fish taste.
While the place is clean and air-conditioned, the food doesn’t justify the long queue. Won’t...
