Restaurant experience: Cleanliness: 5/5 The entire restaurant is well cleaned and maintained, including the tables and cutlery.
Design: 4/5 The restaurant has a clean and minimal design, with a large Buddha figure near the entrance. The combination of the consistent color palettes and matching utensils make for a pretty good visual experience inside
Service: 3/5 The waiters were not very helpful with our questions regarding the menu items, but this was not entirely their fault. The restaurant is very understaffed. Waiters were constantly running around to settle orders so there was no time for them to provide help for customers. Even when they did help, the service wasn't anything spectacular given the price we paid. I didn't feel the waiters had any enthusiasm or a deep knowledge with the restaurant's menu items
Food experience: Prep time: 2/5 I can understand that the store was packed that day, however the time we spent in the restaurant was completely unnecessary. We waited a long time for two dishes to arrive, then we waited forever until the waiters told us our orders were sold out, which basically meant we wasted our time. This is no way to run a business, the chefs and managers should have a system to determine if the current amount of ingredients are sufficient to accept more orders. Letting a customer wait for a long period then telling them its sold out is distasteful. Food: 3/5 Our stir fried vegetables were fresh and cooked well so they reserved their crunch and freshness. However the lion's mane skewers were pretty horrible. It was severely underseasoned and dry which is the worst thing you can do to mushrooms. I'm not just talking about a lack of salt, the spices were too mild even for a my baby mouth. The dryness just made it worse. The pumpkin tofu was good though, the sauce had the perfect balance of flavour and it was very smooth. But for the price we were paying the portions of tofu were just way too small. I know how much these things cost so don’t go brazen with me (・ω・)
Price and verdict: 3/5 I'm sorry but the high prices aren't reflected with my experience in the restaurant. I do understand the appeal of this restaurant, it has a modern approach to vegetarian food and rarely uses fake meats. I see the potential in this restaurant so I sincerely hope you’ll improve. I’ll definitely come back...
Read moreDar Soo at Pavillion KL Food : Creative menu Ambience: comfortable , peaceful , classy Service : There was a specky staff & a man in black suit who had given a tiptop service during my first two visits, kudos ! ( I was thinking to give 2 or 3 stars for the following incident but because of the superb hospitality given by them, I rated 4 stars ) However during my third time visit, the specky staff in light green attire was still giving her amazing service, but a younger female staff in light green attire too & a female manager ( in black coat ) were so so, it was 9.30pm, they had given me an impression of "too eager to leave " ( closing time 10pm , last call 9pm ) the female manager even mentioned right away, " 我們要關門了哦“ when I asked to refill my glass with some water at 9.30pm & the bill was already paid by that time. When I mentioned " the service charge was so high" to the young female staff implying it didn't match the service she gave, she replied in a way as if going to close her personal service counter , "all are the same in the mall". I supposed they wanted to leave early, I saw one of them with striped blouse walking out leaving at 9.45pm when I was waiting for lift. Perhaps I have too high an expectation of your restaurant due to everything too high a class except ... Reminded me of a saying, just because of a black sheep, everything is spoiled, what a waste really . If one can't stay late, pls go work somewhere where you can curi tulang kaw kaw. Don't take service charge from customers...
Read moreFood was bland and oily. Portions was huge but even accounting for that, the food was still overpriced. I expected something more for the food and ambiance based on past reviews. It's just a regular, but clean shophouse restaurant decorated with Buddhist themed decór. If it was dimly lit, dusty and run by an elderly Chinese uncle, it would be no different from any other Buddhist restaurant in Malaysia.
A lot of the reviews comment how the restaurant is different from other vegetarian restaurants — I suppose if you compare it with other shoplot Buddhist vegetarian restaurants in Malaysia, yes it's a little different, but nothing groundbreaking as previous reviews seem to imply. If you compare it to other vegan restaurants in Kuala Lumpur with similar price points, it's honestly nothing special and frankly, just overpriced.
Also, be prepared to wait for a long queue. Thankfully they let us sit in their soup kitchen next door which is closed for the night (there is no signage stating when the soup kitchen is open). I wonder why don't they utilise that space as part of their restaurant so they can accommodate more people, if they have the capacity to do so? By the time we arrived, the soup kitchen seating was nearly full of people waiting to be seated.
I suppose the price can be justified because of the soup kitchen they appear to be running next door, but aside from that, would donate money for the soup kitchen, but would not return...
