Not authentic. I'm from Australia, where Greek food is abundant, and have travelled to Greece in recent years so I have had the pleasure of eating proper Greek food that was made with love and I am disappointed by this restaurant. The interior was beautiful, loved the bleached shutterboards. But what's inexcusable is the food, especially the lamb here - they use cheap hotpot slices. As I'll say below, the gyros lamb and chicken were small pieces, stir fried and not grilled. I can also see photos people have taken of their iskander kebab here in the reviews showing it's not lamb kebab. Kebab is meant to be shaved from a turning spit of meat, why am I getting hotpot slices stir fried? I can't find anything on lamb souvlaki but if the gyros and kebab both use hotpot slices, who is to say the souvlaki is not either? Breakdown below -
Service: good service, with order and pay by QR. Food service was slow, but that may have been because we arrived when they just opened for the day.
Greek coffee: Prepared like true Greek coffee with the coffee grind flattened at the bottom of the espresso cup. It's been so long since I've had Greek coffee so I was happy to drink this.
Greek peach juice: Tasted like it was from a long life juice carton, probably the Amita brand.
Chicken and lamb gyros platter: The lamb was not kebab, they fried hotpot lamb slices and was chewy. Chicken was also stir fried. Yoghurt dip was as described, literally yoghurt with tiny pieces of cucumber (tzatziki would've had olive oil, garlic and salt so I'm confused what is this yoghurt dip). Two pieces of microwaved Lebanese bread (not pita). I'm not sure what the salad was meant to be because if it was meant to be Greek salad, there were no olives, olive oil or feta. The upside is that the chips were good, skin on, deep fried and...

We decided to try Kalamata Cafe on a Sunday morning, intrigued by social media reviews. Upon arrival, the place wasn't crowded, with only four tables occupied. Unfortunately, with just one staff member juggling order-taking and serving, the service was noticeably slow.
Adding to the disappointment was our drink order, an apricot juice, which was forgotten until the end and turned out to be a processed bottle drink rather than fresh.
Our appetizer, the hummus with bread, was a delightful start with its great taste.
We tried their recommended Beef Mousakka and the beef stew. The Mousakka offered an interesting and palatable taste, quite a novel experience for my taste buds. It was served with bread and stood out as a better choice. On the other hand, the beef stew, while tender, lacked a distinctive flavour to make it memorable.
The ambience of the cafe was somewhat dark and tense, reflecting the frustration of customers waiting for their meals.
Overall, our experience at Kalamata Cafe was a bit disappointing. While there were some positives, the long wait times, forgotten orders, and underwhelming dishes made it fall short of the hype it...
Read moreIt is a quiet night when I came in on a Thursday night. Parking was a challenge and I had to park at the building complex next door.
The menu has changed since their 2022 version, so there were no more gyros (was looking forward to eating this TBH).
The menu was a mix of Egyptian and Greek food. To those who are puzzled as to why there are Egyptian and Greek food on the same menu, it is because Egypt used to have a significant Greek population up until the 1950s before the wave of messy nationalism forced many Greek Egyptians to leave their homes.
I had Greek Salad, Greek Fruit Juice (apricot) and vegetarian moussaka. The salad was fresh and looked like it came out of an Athens travel YouTube video. While I have no idea how a Moussaka should look like in Athens, I certainly enjoyed my Moussaka. Ingredients are fresh and there was a free refill of pita bread.
Just for the fun of it, I asked the owner if he is open to making freddo, a traditional Greek coffee made out of shaken espresso and milk, and he told me it is possible, but I would have to WhatsApp him or get in touch with him on Instagram beforehand.
Looking forward to...
