Booked for 1pm. Was otw and by 12.30pm, texted and said will be late as the traffic was building and informed, eta 1.20pm due to the rain and bad traffic. Their reply : "is it possible to come at 1pm cause our last seating time is until 1pm only and we close at 3pm". What a joke. Of course we tried not to be late but the traffic was really beyond our control as it was raining and there was accident. If we could teleport, honestly we would to skip the jam. So, red flag 1.
First thing first, this is Omakase. Not just about the food but the dining experience and interaction w the chef. Place can cater for, probably about 20 pax in a long counter table. 4 of us and we were seated at the last. 3 chefs and they were making their sushi in the center, so we couldn't enjoy and could barely see the chefs prepare the food etc. No explanation, nothing. Never asked if we would like wasabi in the sushi (they put wasabi in all our sushi and some were too much and over powering) and if the soy cause was too much /salty and in deed it was a bit salty for some nigri sushi we had.
The rice portion (on the nigiri sushi) was really really small. Literally tiny, that towards the end, none of us (all 4) were full LOL. we went for round 2 immediately after. I guess the chef probably knows and offered one complimentary piece towards the end.
But anyway, it was honestly so disappointing for an omakase experience and it was the first oma experience for two of my friends. As I had shared my previous oma experiences in other restaurants and how good it was Including the interaction w the chef etc, i thought sushi kazu was able to deliver the same. But it was totally lackluster and pale in comparison. Literally, we better be just going to some other higher end sushi restaurants and ordering the sushis from the menu since i won't be able to see the chef preparing the food, explaining and ensuring the sushi's were made to our liking.
No next time. Honestly, I wish they can refund me. Lol. Felt cheated since I've been to fair share of omas in KL. Cause they just failed to deliver the omakase experience which part of the reason why omakase is premium and the price...
Read moreKazu @ Bukit Damansara is the kind of place that quietly delivers Michelin-level flavors without the inflated price tag. As someone who’s had a fair share of premium sushi across KL (and beyond), I can confidently say that Kazu’s Otoro and Uni offerings are some of the best — and most reasonably priced — in the city.
⸻
🐟 Otoro – Buttery, Fresh & Generous The otoro here is absolutely sublime. Every piece was thick-cut, buttery soft, and luxuriously marbled — melting on the tongue with just the right touch of temperature and texture. Whether it was served as sushi, sashimi, or in their signature rolls, the quality was undeniable. And unlike many high-end spots, the portions were generous, and they let the fish speak for itself — minimal seasoning, maximum flavor.
🍣 Uni – Briny Perfection The Hokkaido uni was equally impressive — fresh, sweet, and creamy with no unpleasant aftertaste (a true test of uni quality). It came in several forms: as a topping on nigiri, layered in rolls, and even paired with wagyu for an indulgent surf-and-turf bite. Each variation was thoughtfully balanced and let the uni shine. The best part? Prices were shockingly fair given the quality — especially compared to typical KL fine dining sushi spots.
⸻
💰 Great Value for Quality Kazu nails the balance between premium ingredients and a down-to-earth, honest price point. For the quality of the otoro and uni alone, you’d expect to pay nearly double at a typical omakase or luxury sushi bar — but here, it’s accessible without compromise.
⸻
🌿 Atmosphere & Service The space is warm, stylish, and unpretentious. Staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to walk through the menu or make pairing suggestions. The vibe is casual enough for a weekday dinner, but elevated enough for a special occasion.
⸻
✅ Final Verdict:
If you’re an otoro or uni lover, Kazu is a no-brainer. You get world-class ingredients, beautifully prepared, at a price that leaves you smiling instead of sweating. This spot is a true hidden gem in Bukit Damansara, and I’ll absolutely be back to explore more of their menu — but the otoro and uni will always be on my table.

Read moreI have eaten at Kazu before when they were at the old, smaller place. I did have a good experience then. But this time was not impressed. Considering we paid Rm 598++ per person this time, it was not worth the choice of the items served. The sequence of the items was not good. N some of the people seated next to us had different items served (lobster) to them. Very strange, as you gave us a choice of 2 packages and we did take the highest one. For our daughter, it was the first time she tried Omakase and once we went home she threw it out. I was not feeling well the whole night as well. While at dinner we had to wait for some of the items to be prepared in the kitchen. I think opening a bigger place, having more people, might be good for the owner, but the quality of the food served has dropped, considering the main chef was trying to cook all by himself, while he was still entertaining the customers with a glass or two. My husband and did not feel like having any alcohol that night, but I believe that if you ordered a bottle or two of wine or any spirit, the treatment by the chef was different...
