The reviews on thus kitchen operated from a house in Old Klang Road were glowing that I secretly plotted lunch here as a surprise to my better half on our anniversary. Parking our car along the residential stretch (as long as you don't block the house or traffic is alright), and then walk to the backlane of the house in order to enter. Just spot a house with the most greens and a white VW Beetle.
The chef was in action in the kitchen as we entered through the back of the house and we were quickly shown to our table. It didn't feel like having a meal in a restaurant but instead in an old school house that was tastefully decorated with a few corners to dine.
Menu was kept simple and depends on the availability of the day - after ordering drinks, they have 2 starters, 2 mains and desserts to choose from. Since there were two of us, we ordered one of the starter and main each.
◾The salmon salad would be a run-of-the-mill dish but elevated by the rather appetizing onion sauce dressing. ◾Tamagoyaki got us swooned with its presentation - the sweet sauce & mayo complimented by the crunchiness from the pomegranate and tanginess from the yuzu peel.. beautified by the thin gold leaf on top. Best Tamagoyaki I had so far! ◾Saba don - the mackarel couldn't be better with its crispy skin and flaky texture, laid on top of basmati rice and sweet sauce on the side. ◾Braised pork rice - stark different from the more well-known Taiwanese braised pork yet bursting with flavour with its thicker and darker sauce. Mixed with onsen egg, seaweed and spring onion for that creamy, savoury and umami satisfaction in the mouth. ◾Price of drinks are charged separately.
Total bill came less than RM100 which I gladly paid for the overall dining ambience + above...
Read moreFinally my reservation was accepted and off we went to this little hidden gem in Tmn United. You enter via the back lane of the house into which you’ll see the kitchen with a very busy chef. A friendly staff brought us to a table and into a dining space that had a very unique sense of reno and deco. It had many architectural plans framed up with a touch of Japanese inspired theme going on too. Surprisingly the place was calm and not noisy at all during the entire time we were there ☺️ Firstly we were asked to order our drinks (menu as shown in photo) had the vinegar probiotic coconut calamansi which was refreshing and sour at the same time;loved it! Osmanthus plum was the other drink we ordered which was good too. The said friendly staff informed us that the chef prepared us three dishes to have for today (to our surprise without us having to choose our dishes) but we trusted him and waited for our dishes to be served. We had the tamago egg omelette with bonito toppings. It was really fresh and good, we ate up everything! Next up was the peppers spice grilled chicken with mix vegetables puree and pickles serve with basmati rice ; the chicken was juicy, flavourful and tender and paired with the rice and sides it was 😘 Our final dish was the grilled saba mackerel serve with coconut oil rice and toppings; the fish was fresh and juicy topped with wine squeezed lemon juice- perfect! The rice was fragrant too. Each dish was prepared on the spot so they were served warm & boy were they all delicious 😋😋 Sadly the daifukus were no longer on the menu as the chef could not handle the load of preparing the other dishes. It would have been a perfect end to our lovely meal with it. Will definitely make a visit to this private kitchen again. PS: they are currently in the midst of upgrading their reservations system to be an online system instead of going...
Read moreGood atmosphere for homemade curated (fusion) Japanese food...
Love the house cafe overall concept. Each space is beautifully designed and decorated. The owner probably is an architecture enthusiast.
No menu was given. I was only asked if I could eat chicken or fish.
Booking to get there This place is always fully booked. You have to book the place one to two months in advance through their website.
Food Portion Portion was well prepared for 2 pax. No food wastage.
Taste 3 dishes were given. Each has their unique flavours and Japanese fusion. My favourite was the grilled fish bowl (there was soft boiler egg, endamame, grilled fish, promaganate seeds, bonito flakes , nd their special sauce - taste like bbq/teriyaki sauce)
Beverage They serve herbal tea and flower tea. Was expecting to order Japanese coffee here but was informed it was out of order temporarily.
Location/parking The location was near the housing area. This was a house turned cafe. Parking was limited. Better use grab to get here. The entrance was at the back of the house and it was not noticeable even though there was a mall arrow sign indicating the entrance was put.
Cafe design Love their overall built. It's like a gateway experience from a busy city. Lots of plants and villa-like design. You need to get there at least once to experience it. (You can refer to the images)
Suggestion Perhaps for the staff, My friend and I were clueless as in how many dishes were served. Maybe in future, the serve could introduce/brief the customers about how many dishes or gently notify the customer that so and so dish is the last dish, so that the customer will not be waiting for more.
Will I come back? Yes, but with more people. Probably in a group of 4 or 6 to experience different curated dishes and omakase experience.
Please book in advance ya and they don't...
