food - been to this restaurant once during one of the weekdays night(just before the burst of pandemic). food - what i like about them is they have some signature dishes. Pls don't compare with the typical "taichao food" you could get basically at every single neighborhood Chinese restaurant - say mamee chicken/sweet and sour pork/fried chicken wings/kam heong cooking/butter prawn/gong pou...so on and so forth(sometimes i'm kinda sick of this kind of fast food style menu, in chinese cooking way, if you get what i mean). There are plenty of those stores at many corners with considerably friendly price yes, then this may not be the kind of restaurant you are looking for. we tried hailam mee and soy sauce grilled squid. i enjoyed eating the noodle, and also the squid(though a bit to salty side, i washed it downed with ice cold beer haha). anyway I always respect someone try to offer something different. service & environment - family run business with some workers worked for many years i believe, the aunty waitress is friendly, know her dishes well when introducing them(again a lot of nowadays taichao restaurants need no special introduction of their menu...pretty much standard). while we were there it was near to late hours, one of the tables you could see one of the family members treating their friends, yet still attentive to our needs, the ambiance is relaxing and unpretentious. price - it is definitely above average for most people expectation when they 1st visited this restaurant, yet they still have many returning customers. as for the squid, try to check in the market for the same size of squid, our little friend is not cheap nowadays, especially when their sizes are bigger than normal household cooking. i remembered recently i tapao at one nasi kandar store, 1 piece of squid with plain rice and vegies it costed me RM18. would i revisit? certainly yes, the food, ambiance, seating at the alfresco and looking at every table around you enjoying that very moment...it makes you feel life is good, especially if you share this moment and experience with some close friends and family members. i don't mind to spend my money here,...
Read moreA humble neighborhood gem in Kuala Lumpur, but don’t let its modest appearance fool you! The food here is next-level old-school goodness with nostalgic flavors. Prices are on the higher side, but for the quality and portions, I’d say it’s worth it.
We came around 5PM and the place was already packed, with only a few tables left. Thankfully, we came with a friend who’s a regular here and had booked in advance (reservation highly recommended if you don’t want to be disappointed). The place is cooling and comfortable, perfect for a group lunch or dinner session.
We had quite a feast, starting with the star of the evening: Buddha Jumps Over The Wall (佛跳墙), which we pre-ordered a week ahead (not on the menu!). Absolutely comforting, loaded with all the 好料 you can imagine — abalone, sea cucumber, scallops, fish maw, seafood, meats, and vegetables. One bowl for RM100, and honestly, so worth it for the premium ingredients inside.
Bittergourd Mee Hoon (RM45, size L), I personally don’t like bittergourd, so I didn’t eat much, but my friends said it was delicious. Portion was good for sharing.
Roasted Chicken (½ bird for RM60), perfectly seasoned, juicy, and tender. Everyone loved this dish.
Steamed Fish (with Seasonal Pricing), the fish was fresh, soft, and infused with rich Chinese-style sauce. You could taste the freshness in every bite.
Scallop Fried Rice was also another winner! Generously loaded with scallops, though price was over RM100 for a sharing portion. Pricey, yes, but you really get what you pay for.
All in all, the food here really hits the spot if you’re craving hearty, traditional Chinese dishes done right. Just remember to make a reservation ahead of time or come outside peak hours for a...
Read moreHave been visiting this place for the longest time since they started and the food was relatively good, wholesome and affordable. As business grew and they expanded, the food got slightly pricier but was still ok cos taste and portions were great.
Last visit was a slight disappointment - the steamed fish had a strong fishy smell and the meat was not too fresh. Other dishes were alright - the roast chicken was juicy and not overly dry. Skin was crispy and fresh and came with equally crispy crackers.
The veg dish we ordered was spinach with egg sauce and it also came with generous amounts of scallops. Vegetables were fresh, not fibrous and the egg/scallop sauce was thick and flavourful. The sauce remained thick until we finished the dish too which I thought was good.
Lastly, the tofu dish was also not bad although it was nothing special. Sauce wise, it was the same as the spinach's which I thought we should not have ordered belatedly. There were a generous portion of scallops and broccoli too.
Price wise it was (to us) on the high side. Fish alone coated RM100 and it was the disappointing one. Considering it is a 'neighbourhood' kind of place, the price could be slightly lowered - as we could get comparable food at a higher...
