came for iftar on 3/4/24 with my 2 indonesian friends:)
pros: 1.the food was SUCH A BOMB !!! (honestly i'd never tried palestinian food before and was kinda skeptical that it might be too bland for my taste but masyaAllah it was the PERFECT balance of all kinds of herbs and spices that just explodes in your mouth!!!!!) the chicken beautifully melts in your mouth and the rice just warms up your soul! you really can feel all the hard work and all the labor of love that went into the making of such heavenly treats!!!! it was as if i was transported into a cosy palestinian home, and was lovingly being served home cooked food by a lovely palestinian grandmother:""! TRY THEIR MAQLUBA ! YOU SHOULD! 10/10!!!! amazing homey ambience ! 4.place is easily located and private enough for all girls to assemble:) the owner Mdm Zara herself is lovely and has an air of lovely elegance around her:) she checks up on her patrons and happily explains about the food that was being served:) beautiful and wide surau for all!! Kudos! the mint tea is HEAVENLY!
cons: kinda pricey (RM75/pax for iftar) for a plate of rice (maqlouba + 1 pc chicken)+ free flow drinks and tea and a few small plates of starters that made you feel guilty to take more than a few tsp of those amazing starters since its purposely made just enough maybe to prevent wastage which is understandable (but honestly it was just soooo good how i wished i can have more than just a few table spoons of all that amazing starters (i.e that paste-y thing , not sure if it was mutabbal or hummus i'm so sorry) how i wished there'll be more tidbits or infographic about palestine more than just that single map of palestine perched on a corner; like i'm looking forward for some books, framed family heirlooms or pictures, some decorations made from kuffiyeh or anything to give the place more nuances and colors of their much celebrated culture it'll be nice if the food was labelled with its name and some info/trivia/back story so that we can appreciate the food and all the hard work that went behind it better:) mechanism to get inside the restaurant is a bit confusing; you press the button at the door downstairs many times but seems like no one is answering, felt sadly unwelcomed tbh :"" 5.the helpers (2 young girls who are helping around) were sadly kinda clueless when i was asking them about the food; maybe they are new yes not their fault but maybe they can 1st learn about the dish so they can enlighten us better:)
all in all, i love the food (so all mishaps can easily be forgiven) and I sooo can't wait to...
Read moreMarookha is a warm and cozy sister's-only café with an in-built gym, salon and play area for kids. I fell in love with the concept of this place from the minute I first discovered it. It has a vibrant ambiance yet warm and cozy atmosphere and the best part is it's female-only. Yes! You heard me right, NO MEN. Which for Muslim women means we can feel free to dress up however we feel comfortable. I discovered Marookha through a friend at a time when I was still in early transitional phases of going into wearing more looser fitting modest attire and I must admit, finding a place where women can freely express their femininity and their beauty made me appreciate covering it up in the outside world even more.
Marookha is more than just a café. It's a community. The owner, Zara, is so warm and friendly with an extremely welcoming personality. She connects with each of her patrons very closely.
In terms of the food, you'll get served high quality Palestinian foods and snacks. It's simply mouth watering and finger licking. I always enjoy attending events hosted by marookha because it's a chance to try out Zara's amazing delicacies while socialising and meeting amazing ladies AND getting to dress up in cute outfits in the process. If I could describe marookha in one word, it would be "freedom"...freedom to be who you are in a halal setting surrounded by...
Read moreI came here for their gym classes. Is an all women area one floor up. Their gym space has a comfortable, complete and clean washroom and a shower room as well. They also have a cute cafe where you can buy coffees. Haven’t tried their food and mani & pedi yet but would love to try it soon. Parking was quite difficult to find so come earlier. Their instagram really helped me a lot to figure things out when i first got to know about them, and i hope it will do the same to the newcomers too. From their instagram i learned about the available time & fee for the classes they offer, i need to book using the Vibefam app, and got to know more about other classes that Marookha is offering. I put high hoped that this...
