Given its immense popularity, especially during peak hours, weekends, or on special occasions, service will be slow. Be prepared for a little wait as the kitchen and staff manage the high volume of orders. However, for many regulars, the delicious food and lively atmosphere are well worth the patience.
Convenience is also accounted for, as paid parking lot facilities are available nearby, easing the usual parking woes in a busy urban area.
In essence, OUG Jade Restaurant offers a satisfying and authentic Chinese dining experience characterized by delicious, classic dishes, a lively atmosphere, and the warmth of a truly popular local spot. Read moreI’ve been visiting OUG Jade for many years for special occasions or when we have guests, and the food quality and service used to be good. Unfortunately, during our most recent visit with guests (September 2024) , it was a huge disappointment. The service was non-existent, and the food quality was terrible.
From the moment we arrived, we were ignored by two staff members who were clearly arguing about work matters. Despite being a group of customers visibly standing in front of them, waiting to be shown to our reserved table, they continued their argument. In the end, we had to find another staff member to guide us to our table.
That’s when the real nightmare began. No one attended to our requests. After they brought us a teapot, they simply left it on a side table and didn’t serve it. The only dish that was acceptable was the Peking duck, which we ordered separately (not part of the set menu). The other dishes were awful. The vegetable dish was tasteless, so we had to send it back to the kitchen. No chili and soy sauce was served until we requested it several times.
Even though soup was included in the set menu, it was never served. When we asked about it, we were given different excuses by the staff in white uniforms (who seemed to be in higher positions). Eventually, we were blamed for not informing them that the soup was missing. This is ridiculous! To make matters worse, the host forgot one of our orders and asked us to cancel it or accept it late. We didn’t cancel it because it was the steamed egg we had ordered for the kids. By the time they brought it, we had long finished our meal, and the steamed egg was overcooked. If I had cooked something like that at home, I would have thrown it away and made it again.
When we raised our concerns at the cashier while paying, the staff were unprofessional. They kept asking us who the host was, but how are we supposed to know when she only took our order and disappeared? We only saw her again when we asked about the missing soup, and we were blamed for everything.
This is a disgraceful experience for us especially we bring our special guests together.
I would definitely not recommend this restaurant to anyone. There are plenty of other places that serve good food and provide much...
Read moreThe best Chinese restaurant in OUG .. period!
The dinner was eventful - the gathering was planned earlier to celebrate a pilot friend's birthday. Venue was chosen by the birthday boy, and we just had to drag our @$$ there and had a great time.
Again, I have never gone to OUG Jade although I have heard of this popular Chinese restaurant countless times. A dear friend then offered to pick me up & head to the restaurant together which was like music to my ears. Knowing that night would be a heavy drinking session, I could go all the way.
The restaurant is quite impressive and located on the second floor of The Market Place building, with a big common dining area plus private rooms. We got ourselves a private room with karaoke facility.
◾snacks - salted egg yolk potato chips... One heck of addictive snacks to munch on while waiting for the food. ◾Pork stomach soup - it was a beautiful sight! The big pot was pushed into our room with the greenish spring onions and reddish goji berry gave it a striking visual. The soup had the sweetness from the pork ribs, and the pork stomach was tender & nice - I don't normally eat stomach, mind you. The guy next to me who doesn't eat spare part passed all to me YAY!! ◾Peking duck - duck skins were expertly carved and rolled in thin sheets together with cucumber, scallions and sweet sauce. The remaining meat was then stir fried with noodle. ◾Steamed soon hock - it has been a while since the last time I had a huge soon hock steamed perfectly. ◾Baked Spanish iberico ribs - interesting way to prepare the prized ribs. The ribs were cooked in a way similar to char siew where the outer layer was caramelised.. I was in awe! ◾shark fin with crab meat omelette - classic Chinese wedding banquet dish of the past. Just wrap in the crunchy lettuce and eat.. note: mock shark fin was used ya! ◾vegetable - we just need something green on the table. ◾Finale - fried pork belly with garlic which was an additional order after we finished everything but still wanted to munch on something together with the whisky & rum. This has got into my favourite lisy.
Few bottles of wines, whisky and even rum were killed (some almost) that night.. if I may say, the food quality in OUG Jade is really one of the better ones...
