An apprentice chef may use all the right ingredients but cannot move your palate from mediocre to awesome. This stall promotes a novelty Hakka mee but serves lots of Wantan mee. Its mouth watering charsiew stares at you as you walk by - barbequed to seemingly perfection with a dripping balance of lean and fat loins- reminiscent of the infamous Jalan Imbi Overseas restaurant of folklore. But alas looks are always deceiving once you eat this sugar crusted meat over a salty bed of noodles. No charcoal fired aroma meant it was probably deep fried before its sweet jacket coating. The suikow dumplings and wantons also miserably failed the taste test albeit with almost all the correct fillings but sadly glued together firmly by cornstarch. If only this 2nd generation young chef took a lesson from the reigning Master Chef Ah Pak at Jalan Sahabat , he may win back my custom someday. A plate to seduce you but leaves you unsatisfied.
