We've been regular patrons of Foong Yet for quite a number of years, and it's about time we share our thoughts.
In terms of food quality, this place consistently delivers above-average dishes. Some items on the menu are particularly tasty, while others might not hit the same mark — but that really depends on what you order. The menu itself is extensive, with plenty of choices to satisfy different preferences.
For us, the highlight has always been the frog dish. Whether it’s Steam Frog with Galic & Ginger, Kung Pao Frog, or Stir Fried Frog with Scallion, they’re always well-prepared and full of flavor. The prawn dishes too are also commendable — there’s a good variety of cooking styles, and most of the ones we’ve tried have been delicious. We’re also fans of the crab dishes, particularly the Black Pepper Crab, Salted Egg Crab, Kum Heong Crab, are worth trying if you're up for a treat.
One important note for new diners is that some dishes can be on the pricier side. Fish and crab dishes, in particular, can cost around MYR80-MYR100 for fish and MYR180-MYR250 for a two-person meal. However, if you stick with more standard fare like vegetables, chicken, pork, or prawns, a decent three-dish meal plus drinks for two should fall in the MYR80-MYR100. It’s not the cheapest spot around, but also not overly expensive — quite typical for a restaurant of this style in a Kepong area.
Do take note: the restaurant can get very crowded, especially at night and on weekends. Whether it’s a weekday or weekend, it tends to fill up fast, so it’s best to arrive early if you want to avoid a long wait.
All in all, we highly recommend Foong Yet to those looking for a satisfying Chinese meal in the area. Just come prepared for a crowd — and maybe a little splurge if you're in the mood...
Read moreTravelling from far to this restaurant and area is hard to find parking and restaurant space is limited. So most ppl is allocate to table along the shophouses or opposite parking space which is dark and lots of mosquito especially at night. Food quality is reasonable OK with improvement required especially on table allocation and food ordering queue. There are huge mess on this management as table was reserved and ordering doesn't follow queue. We waited very long and found out that the ordering chit is not attended to until we confirm and clarify as we noticed 2 late tables also started to eat. That's bad and nobody care to check during the waiting. How is reservation of tables managed? So reservation can order food as well even they not arrive yet and how to manage walk in customer? If really full then don't allow walk in and just accept all reservations. The whole experience from this restaurant is totally mess up. After complaining and we insist to change to indoor and was granted so atleast we eat comfortable during dinner even after a bad experience so we don't hate it but dislike the experience. Tips: Take note for newcomers as I still believe there are double standards in the table allocation and also...
Read moreOrdered the hotplate taofu 鐵板豆腐 for takeaway, and confirmed with the staff that took my order that it comes with eggs.
When given to me, discovered that there was no eggs given with the taofu! Argued with the staff, and was told only dine-in comes with eggs, but no eggs if takeaway. I cannot understand the reasoning.
I argued that I was charged with the same price, but without eggs. Staff insisted this is the way and refused to apologize.
Maybe next time I should order as dine-in first, then ask them to tapao when served?
Utterly inflexible staff, and unreasonable restaurant. They just lost a customer over some eggs. Will NOT...
