As a supporter of the old Overseas restaurant, after hearing one of the ex chef from the renowned has opened up his own restaurant, we decided to cross the town to try this restaurant. We have ordered the all times favorite the caramelized BBQ pork and the big head freshwater prawns in the signature sauce. I must say these 2 dishes lived up to Overseas restaurant’s name. The BBQ pork tasted exactly the same as the good old overseas restaurant. The meat was tender and juicy and highly caramelized with sugar. The fresh water prawn was fresh and cooked to perfection! We also ordered steamed Patin in superior soya sauce, steamed kampong chicken, tofu with luffa and kai lan. I found the chicken a bit blend in taste after having the BBQ pork and the prawn. The salted fish pork belly was cooked well and lived up to my expectation. The noodle was tasty but on the salty side. The tofu was good but the fish was a bit overcooked unfortunately. Overall the food are decent with the exception of the 2 signature dishes which brought back the good memories of the good old days visiting Overseas restaurant. The price was much more reasonable compared to the current overseas restaurant. Hence, we can understand why the restaurant was fully packed. Not the best place to talk though given the noise level in the restaurant. The restaurant has 2 storeys. One best to book if you wish to sit at the air cond area on the 1st floor. They also rented another shop lot few doors away just to cater for the crowd. I would recommend this place if you love the signature dishes which are the BBQ pork and the fresh water prawn in the...
Read moreAs usual we were there for dinner upon the wishes of my wife to try out a new place in shamilan perkasa called the buddies as recommended by her buddies. Turns out to be a passable place for dinner, with no exceptional dishes to speak of. We were there early about 8 and found it rather fulled with their patrons, families and the younger people. We quickly settled in and ordered not knowing how quick or long we'll have to wait before being served. Turns out to be soon and fast, about 15 minutes after. We ordered, a char siew dish, paku veggi, steamed eggs and a spare ribs dish.. Overall all the dishes were passable without any stand out dishes. Overall pretty std msian cooking style/flair. Sorry taken no Puctures as it didn't really impresses me to prompt me to do so.. After we finished and about to leave we found out this restaurant do have another fully air con place further down it original place. Price wise they were OK by shamilan area. My final verdict is just a 3 stars at best. Dishes range were about as varied but not too much on offer. About average for this restaurant. Gathered it catered generally to folks at this area and not many outsiders. Since it was our 1st time there we decided to try out their std dishes to register their taste std's. And turns out to be about average. Or perhaps we need to pay another visit to find out where they stand when it cones to taste and std. Hoped we ll be...
Read moreOverall 3.5 stars. In its short history, this restaurant's success has it expanding its operation to another shoplot. It was peace and quiet here when I had an early lunch on a workday. But I can imagine this restaurant buzzing louder than a beehive at weekends.
Of the 5 dishes we tried, the yin yeong noodles stood out. It was a perfect marriage of textures - crispy mee hoon and charred kway teow - soaked in a sauce that wasn't too eggy. The steamed ginger fish and home made tofu shared 2nd billing. The portion of fish was humongous - we had to tah pau the remainder. Although a firm favourite with the reviewers here, I found the paku pakis salad a tad too sweet. Rounding off our meal were the curried pork ribs - the special of the day - and steamed soup in coconut. Both were decent.
Look forward to return here with more diners in tow to try the rest of the food. The price her head - RM50 - for all we had was a nice surprise.
Tip: the open air section occupies the ground floor. There are 2 more air con sections - one upstairs and another on the ground level a few doors away. When booking ahead, do ask for the latter if your dining group includes folks who do not wish to climb up a...
