My hubby found this place from the Michelin Guide's Bib Gourmand list. It's our first time in Kuala Lumpur and after trying Malay and Chinese food, we wanted to try some Indian food. It's now in the middle of Ramadan, so dinner reservations after sundown are pretty hard to get. We were excited to get a late reservation at 9:15pm.
What we ate: Bamboo Briyani - briyani steamed in bamboo pipe, enclosed with green leaves. Wow!!! I've had some amazing biryani rice in London to San Francisco, but this is by far the best I've had. Moist and perfectly cooked, flavors enhanced by the bamboo. Lamb Vindaloo: perfect spice level, tender cubes of lamb, and amazingly flavorful. Served with a side of yogurt if the heat is too much for you, you can ease it by adding some yogurt. Honestly it really adds even more flavor with that tangy yogurt. Palak paneer: honestly I don't like ordering this in the states unless I'm in a restaurant that I know is very good, because most of the people don't know how to make this and usually the spinach in the dish turns out bitter. But I decided to give it a try here. Wow! The best palak paneer l've had and it taught me that this dish could be so rich, creamy, and flavorful!!! Garlic naan: flufty and crispy on the edges. Served piping hot, the way it should be. I think it was because they were having a special buffet prepped for the Ramadan, but the waiter went around and served everyone complimentary falooda as well. It was so lovely. The total bill was less than $40 USD.
I’m so happy I found this excellent restaurant. I will definitely return here next...
Read moreSince we were Indian tourists visiting KL, we searched for Indian restaurants on Google near our hotel. Roti By d'Tandoor was also a part of the search result and we decided to give it a try since it was a 10-15 min. walkable distance from our hotel. Also, the menu showed several vegetarian options.
The location of this restaurant is in a quiet residential area which gets lonely after dark. During our entire walk, we did not encounter a soul except for a few cars that zoomed past us.
The first impression that we got on entering this place was that the staff was not very welcoming and warm. Plain drinking water was served to us after a very long time - that too upon request and after we had placed the order for food. One of the drinking water glass was not very clean and i requested for a fresh one to which they obliged.
As regards the food, special instructions were given to make the food less spicy. Besides, we wanted the daal to be without green chillies.
What was served?
Instead of lacchha parathas, they served tandoori rotis. Paneer Butter masala was too sweet and the paneer was not soft. Daal tadka had rings of green chillies in it and we had to pick and remove them while eating. The daal was quite thick than normal daal. The taste however was good.
This feedback was shared with them and hope they work towards improving customer experience.
Will not prefer to visit again...
Read moreI’ve been dining here weekly and can honestly say this place consistently delivers an exceptional experience. The food is absolutely delicious, with every dish standing out thanks to the high quality of ingredients. The menu strikes a perfect balance — varied enough to offer great choices, but not overwhelming in size. Every single item I’ve tried has been excellent, and I always feel great after eating here — something that’s not always guaranteed with rich Indian food.
The ambiance is extremely comfortable, very clean, and clearly run with a high level of professionalism. Staff interactions are always pleasant, adding to the overall positive experience. Presentation of the dishes is beautiful, and the portions are extremely generous. While the prices may seem slightly higher at first glance, you’re actually getting outstanding value — often receiving portion sizes that feel double or triple what you'd expect.
In short: this is a true gem in the area. High-quality Indian food that never leaves you feeling heavy or unwell, but instead leaves you wanting to come back for more. I wholeheartedly recommend it and will continue to support this wonderful restaurant....
