"Mori" translate to forest in Japanese, while "Kohi" means coffee.. located within a stone throw away from The Intermark KL right smack in the city centre, I didn't even know that such cafe existed. It was a white bungalow-turned-cafe which was quite big & spacious but still packed with people.
What I like is the tidiness and cleanliness of the cafe. The cafe was filled with plants and decorated in earthy tones for comfortable dining. The cakes, pastries and bottled drinks are neatly displayed and everyone seemed to be systematic. But let the food did the talking.
◾Mellow Taro cake - being a Hakka, I couldn't resist taro whenever I see one. The cake was smooth, moist and delicious. ◾Mori Signature Tendon - nothing beats a delicious-looking bowl of rice topped with various tempuras drizzled with shoyu. A perfect sinful carb that will get the tummy both full and satiated. ◾Chicken Karaage Curry Rice - the curry was sweet & savoury, true to Japanese curry style with juicy deep fried boneless chicken. Served with salad with roasted sesame sauce. ◾Salmon Chazuke - if you're lover of something soupy, order this dish. Delicious salmon chunks on top of bowl of rice + nori. The soup was served separately in a teapot which I poured into the bowl. Brought me back to my younger days where I mix my rice with soup. ◾Takoyaki served with crunchy waffle fries, plus the delicious teriyaki sauce and further topped with bonito flakes, spring onion and Japanese mayonnaise. I telan 2 biji. ◾Children's menu - it appeared to be tomato fried rice drizzled with tomato sauce, served with nuggets, scrambled eggs, and salad. ◾Drinks - a hot and stuffy day outside called for refreshing kombucha and iced latte.
Mori Kohi left us impressed at the end of our lunch. Offering contemporary Japanese dishes which most Malaysians are familiar with, they do have a dining time limit...
Read moreAn accidental delightful find while searching for a quiet Japanese restaurant to celebrate my daughter's B’day. This is a cafe like restaurant serving Western-influenced Japanese meals. Therefore, you won't find the regular assorted sushi platter.
PROS The whole banglo setting to create an tasteful modern retro yet minimalist greenery atmosphere with a sense of exclusivity. Food we ordered are delicious! Each dish is prepared with great care in terms of presentation and taste. Price point mid - high, fair for such a setting. Love the plant shop next door. Great ecstatic. We even bought miniature cactus 🌵 in glass keychain bottle. Kids & dog friendly! They have outdoor settings. So it won't be uncomfortable to some customers. Fair amount of FREE parking spots.
CONS QR code ordering system?! My husband immediately rolled his eyes. Given their kind of setting & the spread of fusion food on the menu, despite with basic description - I believe customers would appreciate more info & recommendations. And as expected, the QR code glitches and they have to manually take our order. Loud 80s pop songs coming from outdoor Dessert food van clashes with indoor soft music. A minor uncomfortable incident whereby I took a stroll outdoor while waiting for food being served. An overzealous politely-rude staff approached me to ask why am I wandering around? Told him I am a customer waiting for my food yet he is not really convinced until I pointed to the table where my family is seated. Note to self : Next time wear a fancy wide brim hat with white dress & bring a dog...
Read moreI was craving a good hojicha so i googled and saw all the glowing reviews decided to drove down 40 mins just to enjoy my tea night. But honestly what a complete disappointment!! I’ve had bad hojicha before but this was on another level of terrible!! First of all, RM18 for this???!!! The cup was already small and yet it was way underfilled, such a stingy portion. Honestly i don’t mind paying more for a genuinely good hojicha but if you’re going to charge that price, at least give proper portions and quality. This just felt like daylight robbery. And the worst part... the lid had a horrible smell, almost like a toilet. The stench was so off putting that i couldn’t even finish. I actually had to throw it away immediately. I’ve never experienced anything like this before. Honestly idk who’s writing all these good reviews but something feels very suspicious. This was hands down one of the worst hojicha experiences i've ever had. Def not coming back
Scrolling through reviews, i see im not alone. Do you seriously think ignoring all these complaints is sustainable, cafe owner?? I thought i was picky but there are dozens of people saying the same thing. Make changes or pack up and go home. As a foodie, it hurts to see such stubborn ignorance. You want profit? Fine. But understand this.. no customer in their right mind will pay for subpar drinks, stingy portions and revolting service. This is beyond negligence!! Its disrespect. Let’s see how long this joke of a cafe lasts if you guys keep...
